When the Duke of Lexington meets the mysterious Baroness von Seidlitz-Hardenberg on a transatlantic liner, he is fascinated. She’s exactly what he’s been searching for - a beautiful woman who interests and entices him. He falls hard and fast - and soon proposes marriage. And then she disappears without a trace.… For in reality, the "baroness" is Venetia Easterbrook - a proper young widow who had her own vengeful reasons for instigating an affair with the duke. But the plan has backfired. Venetia has fallen in love with the man she despised - and there’s no telling what might happen when she is finally unmasked….

This book follows the usual intrigue and tension of will they/won't they, sandwiched between sex sessions between the two main (insatiable) characters. All of it is fairly well written, so if this is your cup of tea, I recommend it. If you're looking for the typical Regency Romance genre (sans explicit sexual content), move on.

Would you listen to Beguiling the Beauty again? Why?

One of my favorite romance writers! Her characters are always three dimensional and her plots are riveting. You really like these people! This is the first in the Fitzhugh series. My favorite is the story of Hastings and Helena. Great book!

I loved this story. It was so well-written with wonderful dialogue, interesting plot and delightfully charming characters. My absolutely favorite part is the shipboard romance between the Duke of Lexington and Venetia Easterbrook disguised as a German Baroness. Venetia was hoping to revenge herself upon the Duke for remarks he made about her at a lecture she attended, but instead she falls in love. And the fact that she's in disguise makes this otherwise reserved and "dukely" duke open up his heart to her. It's a blistering and lovely affair, but Venetia has to deal with the consequences when she returns to England and must appear undisguised and as herself. Definitely one of my favorite listens,

Best book ever? No. But good enough to listen to the audiobook multiple times. In fact, I liked it better the second time because I fully understood the heroine's motivations for never revealing her identity. The ending is reminiscent of The Gift of the Magi with each being willing to sacrifice their reputation/dignity for the other. Well planned and written, excellent turn of phrase, intelligent characters.

Worth multiple listens

Any additional comments?

What a great romantic story. I loved Venetia and Christian, really loved their time on the ship. As to her extraordinary beauty, I loved that too. In a romantic novel I want to have a hero and heroine to look just that way. In the real world I face the "not perfect" people but in a book I want to be taken away to a make-believe world for a few hours. But, that's just me. I think Ms. Thomas did a spectacular job with this book. Not as good as His At Night but pretty darn close.
As to the narrator? She could have done a little better with her male voices but, over all, she did OK.

Wonderful..

Great situation, characters, and adventures. Wished it had been a bit longer...I'll go to the library for the other two.

loved it.

If you’re looking for a cheesy historical romance, then you’ll probably enjoy it. However, the plot, events and characters were so unbelievable, I had a hard time getting past those issues.

Cheesy romance

Book far too long to sustain such a thin idea. Too implausible that he would not know who she was and not nearly enough of the two of them coming to understand themselves in light of all that they went through to get to each other. The biggest problem with this kind of story is that too much of it goes on in the characters’s head and there is not enough connection between the characters. I really just skipped whole chunks to get to the resolution.

Too Angsty
