Ember Walsh is a trusting soul with the quiet beauty of her late mother, who perished in a mysterious car crash when Ember was three. A little tomboyish from being raised by her father, Ember packs a punch when a stranger gets pushy with her in a bar, catching the steely blue eyes of a tall, gorgeous tattooed man — Trace Montgomery. Still damaged from her last disastrous relationship and warned off the bad boy by friends, Ember fights the smoldering heat that Trace sparks in her when he begins shadowing her like a dark angel.
Burdened by a lifetime of horror and heartbreak, amateur fighter Trace doesn’t want to want Ember. His deep self-loathing keeps him from having any meaningful relationships, but Ember is an itch he can’t scratch. The two push and pull, slowly crumbling their walls, seemingly brought together by fate, because the turmoil that haunts their pasts is interlinked in undeniable ways. But can these two fighters finally lay down their arms?

It is one of the most exciting and interesting books I've listened. Surprising, romantic, emotional. Exquisite!
The plot was so complex. Many side plots and characters making the story so interesting and addictive.
My favorite scene was the one when Amber proposed :-)
Yes!!! And I almost did ;-)
I have bought this book as a romance. I was seeking a nice story with a hot hero and some bad boy actions. What I got was soooo much more. It is truly one of the best books I've listened because of all the extraordinarily balanced drama, crime, romance and action. I'm waiting for the next book from this series.
Avid reader and Audio books listener
A great listen. enough to make you want to keep listening
There was a story
I like strong funny women, she is not that. Found so much of the story not believable. I returned this book half way through.
The author should have spent more time building their relationship up. The story didn't have a good indication as to why the girl would fall so hard for this guy in a matter of brief meetings, to the point of almost worship. There wasn't enough depth in the story. Also, the girl in the story was sooooo annoying! Get a backbone! Have some self respect!
I literally rolled my eyes about every half hour at how weak and pathetic the girl was in different situations.
She did a great job in every aspect.
The scenes were Trace told her to leave, to get out and they were over and Ember would follow him everywhere.
This story has great potential with the right 'tweeking' here and there. Was very disappointed to see such a good story get ruined the way it was.
I loved how well everyone's story is connected to the ultimate healing of someone overcoming their demons. I also love how each friend and family member was connected and how essential they were in revealing secrets.
I fell in love with Trace. No matter what he went through in life his morals and need to protect the innocent was solid. The fact that Trace ultimately accepts that he is not his father was my most favorite revelation.
Braving the unknown can heal old wounds.
This would be a great movie!
I enjoyed this story. The many twists and subplots kept me on my toes. Can't spoil it for other readers but I really loved the characters and ending.
I've listened to this book at least 3 times now. And can't wait to listen to it again. Such a beautiful moving story of pain and healing.
One of the many outstanding moments that I enjoyed was when Ember's father finally reached through Trace's pain to let him know just how worthy Trace truly is. Worthy of love, of friendship, of respect, and of his daughter.
Of course the main character of Ember Walsh is my favorite. But all of the characters are full and rich as read by Ms Rubinate.
The lengths Trace goes to to bring the couple back together after he forced their breakup is exquisite. I loved everything about it.
I loved everything about this book. It flowed beautifully between the romance and the mystery of how the lives of the two families are forever entwined. And how the damage in ones soul can be healed with faithful love.
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
Wow this amazing story had my emotions skyrocketing up then screaming back down at 100mph.... The struggle to love and be loved is at an all time high in this book and just when you think it is not going to get any more dramatic or fill you with any more anxiety, everything shifts and changes. It was a long process to get through this book because I just wanted the characters to let it all out and expose every little detail and then concentrate on the happiness. This story was beautiful and breathtaking and so full of hope - at the end of the day the struggle to find peace is what left me craving for more, page after page.
Trace is an unbelievable hot guy. Shown by the swarms of women constantly surrounding him. But the thing about Trace, is though he is a fighter, fighting for the one thing he truly wants and needs provides to be the biggest battle of them all. He is afraid of the demons in his past and he knows that there is no way anyone will ever love him because of the torment that he has spent living his entire life.
Ember is a strong willed shy girl. She has so much going for her and wants nothing more than to be a writer, but she is not without flaws. She is shy and her best friend knows this and plays off it time and time again wearing down her self worth and image of herself. Digging deep and finding all her inner strength Ember is not going to walk away quietly... She knows what she wants to do with her life and she is taking the chance to do it... She doesn't have a lot of experience with relationships and she always feels so awkward when she meets a guy, words fail her and she tends to stumble over what she is saying, but when Trace shows up in her line of vision everything in her world changes.
This is beautifully told story full of hope and promise and ghosts of the past....it left me breathless and defiantly wanting more. I loved them when they were together - I struggled with them when they were apart - I just had to kept listening until I had all the answers... :)
Yes. It is a different twist on a romance but very good. A little too much on the sex detail. I think it could go into depth on more of the characters background. In the sex, I believe it is better if you can you can personally use your imagination more.
My favorite character was Ember and her father. I love a close father/daughter relationship like they had.
Amy was great as a narrator. She made the people come to life so you could love them or hate them.
That even though Trace was a manly man her was able to cry and show emotions.
