"Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness… He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily… Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.
"The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart...."

“If I were to recommend any book today to readers who enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey… this would be the first one I would offer… Scorching love scenes.” (Dear Author)
"An erotic romance that should not be missed.” (Romance Novel News)
“Hot… page-meltingly hot.” (Darhk Portal)
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Firstly, I cannot compare this awesome listen to FSOG as I haven't yet listened to the raved over book but all I can do is review this one.
This book totally consumed me as it unfolded to tell the heart renching story of two previously sexually abused people slowly learning to trust in each other, letting go of their pasts and eventually love again. I fell in love with Gideon not because he was handsome, filthy rich, successful at everything he did but because he was sooo vulnerable, caring and thoughtful when it came to Eva. He thought his life was just fine and wanted for nothing....... until he met her eyes - then sparks flew and they very quickly turned into embers which ignited into burning hot flames of passion filled pages.
Good plot, great primary and secondary characters and lots of 'hot and heavy' all go into the mix to create a well written and well narrated exceptional listen.
Worth a credit? DEFINATELY, TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY YES.
I love books! Audiobooks take stories to the next level. I'm obsessed with Audible and will try to rate all of my books. Happy Listening! ;)
I listened to the Fifty Shades trilogy twice back to back. And I loved every second of it. Then I went into an emotional detox and started listening to paranormal romances for a few weeks. Just when I was starting to miss fifty a little, Bared to you came out promising to be a substitute for FSoG. It was not... But I must clarify that I really liked both books. Enough about fifty.
Bared to You is the story of Eva and Gideon, two very beautiful, filthy rich people that fall madly in love. The thing is they are kind of crazy, and not the fun kinda crazy, but the you'll-Need-therapy-the-rest-of-your-life kind of crazy. They have both been victims of sexual abuse when kids and they don't really know how to have a normal happy healthy relationship. The interesting thing is that their sexual abuse made them a little cookoo but did not affect their libido of sexual performance. At. All. Hot chemistry!
Bring in secondary stories about the bi-sexual, also insane but ridiculously gorgeous roommate that Eva has (Cary). Eva's controlling mother and Gideon's very misterious family and you have a story that is very interesting, unpredictable and did I mention HOT!
If you loved fifty and are looking for another version of the story, please note that this is different, more psychological and intense. No BDSM at all.
Now to the merits as an audiobook: this is fifty shades better. Jill Redfield did an amazing job with all the voices. The emotions she brought to the narration were just flawless. Distinct voices for each characters and exellent tones for the love scenes. I was very surprised to see that this is the only audiobook available that she has narrated. I definitely look forward to more books narrated by her.
Can't wait for the next book: Reflected in You...
I don't have time to sit and read, but I have plenty of time to sit and listen! :)
If you are a Fifty Shades fan then you found your next fix. In fact, you have found a better fix. One that Fifty could not provide! Why? Well, I am always happy for someone in the Minor Leagues to step up and hit a home run out of the park, but nothing is as beautiful as watching the pro's do it.
Even if your not a Fifty's fan you may prefer that you never read Fifty and just found these books instead... how do I know? I don't know you, so I don't know. :)
At first I was tired of the roller coaster of emotions from the main character Ava that I was going to strangle her myself. But as I settled into the book I soon realized where the author was taking me and it was a delicious ride for sure.
Jill Redfield narrating is AMAZING! Really do I need to say more if she is AMAZING?
Perfection, nailed it, touchdown, home run, SCORE!! She made this book a thrill to listen too and at times had me really blushing.
This was my first experience with Sylvia Day's books and I am a fan. I can't wait for the final book of this series but I am also going to check out her other books and pray they are as thrilling as this.
Happy Reading! :))
If you are a fan of the FSOG, you'll love this book. It is very close, but much better written. Give it a try it will not disappoint
Though there are many similarities between FSOG and this book, Sylvia Day knows how to spin a tale and has the editors to prove it. Ladies and gentlemen not one "OH MY" in the entire book. Both characters have their own baggage of past monsters they need to deal with and the story keeps you glued to the book to uncover their secrets. I literally couldn't put the I-pod down. While I was interested in FSOG I was in a trance with this book. I felt like a voyeur watching the weave of these to lives bind and build. I love strong male characters. I often thought "how would I react if a man like Gideon talked to me like that?" My normal response to any man with that rap would be me telling him to go pound sand, however with Gideon I would have lost my ever lovin mind as Eva did.
Jill Redfield did an excellent job at narration. Audible DO NOT CHANGE NARRATORS!!
I look forward to the next in the Crossfire series. Again.....Audible sign what ever contracts, pay off your people, do what you need to do to get the second book available on release day.
I like a sex driven book as much as the next person, but this book was just ridiculous and so cheesy! I purchased it based on all of the stellar reviews, but it had me laughing at it during some points. It felt like it was written by an old-fashioned person's idea of what a relationship like that would be like, what talking dirty sounds like, etc... For me, the thing that makes a book like this enjoyable is when the relationship is the foundation and the sex/conflict is more secondary and used to further that relationship. But every time there was an issue, Gideon would respond with, "you need to get laid." Like....all the time. And there wasn't very much dialogue to establish their relationship in the first place. Plus, it was the same descriptive scene over and over and over...and over again. Kinda silly.
I didn't buy into it.
Jill Redfields narration was a mixed bag. She was pretty good as Ava, but whenever she was channeling Gideon, she sounded like Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. ha ha! I kept expecting her to say, "Precious...! Preeeecious!" It was pretty bad and spot on. It had me laughing.
it's the best way to spend a working day, and i'm thankful my job is one where i can listen to books all day long.
i'd just finished Fifty Shades Trilogy and was desperate to find something, anything to fill the void that Fifty left on me. what to read next? i had no clue. then a friend told me to read Bared to You. it's similar to Fifty except the writing is on a higher level, the characters more developed and the narration is superb.
if you're missing fifty or you're wanting a fresh, new escape, try this listen. you'll enjoy it from beginning to end. my only negative comment would be the length of the book. it's too short. i'm hoping her next installment, due out in october, will be longer. this was just over too fast! i'm already missing the characters. :)
I found this novel totally for the late teens to early twenties. Those who are still exploring sexuality or are are new to the whole thing. I had to listen in slabs of half an hour or so as the shallowness really got to me. But seeing I paid for it I gritted my teath.
I will admit have not listened to the Fifty Shades of Gray series yet since the review on the narrator were not good. With that said I must say this book was really good. The narrator was very good. I would have liked her male voice of the main character to be a little stronger but she was still great. The story was not totally overshadowed by the sex but an integral part of the story itself. I was totally enthralled in the book and had a hard time stopping the book. I probably could have listened to the book in one full day.
I am totally looking forward to the continuation of this series. Totally credit worthy!!
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
After listening to both authors work, E L James and Sylvia Day, it is uncanny how similar there books are. Great work by Sylvia Day with just a bit more modesty thrown in. I am very happy there are more books to come and hoping more than 3 as I feel if the saga is continued longer it will out run Fifty shades by miles. Sylvia Day appeals to me more as she has such a smooth natural way when telling the love making, her way of writing doesn't embarrass me at all with the hot and spicy sex.. Looking forward to the rest of this series and will be grabbing it as soon as the next book is released! Thanks Sylvia :)
I listen to it over and over and over again got all the books yeay
was lost in the story. packed with love lust and an incredible read. can't wait for part 2
"Actually quite good!!"
Steamy, Heart-warming and Addictive
When they meet for the first time, you know what's going to happen its just a matter of waiting for it - it's definitely worth the wait!!
Yes, can't wait to read the next one.
Yes a bit of both.
"Downright dirty, downright delicious"
Imagine 50 Shades that is written by someone who can actually write and you have the Crossfire series.
Ava and Gideon. So, so much better than Ana and Christian and, god forfend, Edward and Bella.
It's the usual story about a disgustingly wealthy man instantly besotted with a girl, but that's where it ends. Ava is sassy, snarky and sensible and one you can imagine might actually exist. She's confident and Day keeps her true to type. She makes no unfathomable decisions that are not part of her character, unlike Bell-Ana.
Gideon is a little cliched, but Day's writing is so good that he comes across as strong and believable... well... um... most of him is believable. Certain parts are a little... unlikely.
Quick synopsis: our two meet when Ava moves to NYC and they are instantly, wildly obsessed with each other. They acknowledge that it's unhealthy but fight to keep each other. Gideon is hiding hideous abuse, Ava is hiding rape and betrayal.
I think what I like is that it doesn't suddenly become roses, blue birds and violins. They mess up frequently but pick their way through the wreckage of their pasts.
I have to mention Ava's best friend, the bisexual Cary who is just delicious!
Jill Redfield is a fabulous narrator - perfect for Ana's character. She's bold and confident, just like Ana.
"50 Shades of Gideon"
Pretty much a mirror image of 50 Shades. Best not to listen to it without earphones!
Loved the series although felt a lot of it was similar to 50 Shades but that didn't stop me enjoying it as more of a story.Looking forward to book 4. :-)
Definitely similar to 50 Shades.
Was so easy listening. Would have preferred Gideon's speech to have been a mans voice and not Jill imitating.
Couldn't stop listening. Gutted I have now finished the three books.
"Better than fifty!"
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book as well as the sequel. Having originally chosen it to quench my need for more of the infamous fiddy I never expected it to be quite so similar in it's story or characters (sans BDSM aspect).
Definitely better written, less repetitive and more accessible but playing to the strengths of fifty shades and quenching the thirst that the brakethrough trilogy awakened. Part of you longs for Gideon Cross whilst another part wants to be him (very Freudian!). Narration by Jill Redfield was great and also seemed superior to that of the 50 shades trilogy.
Highly recommend listening to this book with a bit of James Arthur in the the background for a truly liberating and silky smooth experience. Counting down the days until the third book is released!
"Up there with 50 Shades!"
If life is not the same without Christian Grey then this book will help fill that void. A great read/listen with fantastic, dynamic characters. This is a must read!
I have read both books and fine them addictive reading can't wait for part three and hope the author does the final installment justice as the reader is hooked on both main characters
"Plagiarism without talent"
This book is a shameless plagiarism of shades of Grey but without E.L James's talent. It's just a lot of clichés without the sensitivity and humour that we loved in E.L James's books.
However, Jill Redfield did a great job (except for Gideon's voice who speak like a mafia godfather), I hope she will read a lot of other books.
If you really want to read good erotics books go listening Olivia Cunning or read Kate Grey, they are very talented artist, you will not be disapointed like with this rip off from Sylvia Day.
