Publisher's Summary

A Ride On the Wild Side

The last place Catherine MacPherson ever expected to find herself was sitting on a Greyhound bus, handcuffed to a surly bounty hunter, with only a suitcase of her twin sister's flashy, shrink-wrap clothing to wear! Just two hours ago, the respectable schoolteacher was sitting quietly at home when this bi macho hunk crashed through her door, mistook her for her errant Miami showgirl sister, and hauled her off in his strong arms. And no matter how sexy he is, she's furious!

Twins-ha! Sam McKade's the last person to ever fall for that line. He's finally got the gorgeous, leggy redhead just where he wants her-and no matter what outrageous tricks she pulls, he's not letting her get away. The problem is, she's a lot smarter-and sweeter-than he'd expected. And he's got this deep-buried tenderness she hadn't expected. And their kisses are so hot, they just might burn up ... before they sort it all out.

Use books for escape- typically avoid nonfiction. Enjoy action-romance, espionage/military, sci-fi. Skilled writing is most important.

    "Average"

This is a typical romance novel with all of the romance genre cliches, but it was entertaining. Anderson writes with a light hand and well enough, although without much originality.

I reminded myself of the publication date (1998) or some of the plot devices did not work, e.g. fingerprint matching across states probably wasn't possible (?) so the two protagonists could not clear up the identity problem from the start; cell phones would have put the two sisters in contact much sooner, etc.

Listeners who look for explicit sex scenes will find some, but not to the overloaded extent many romance writers feel compelled to write today.

Overall, don't use your last credit on this one, but this book is not a waste early in your annual renewal.

    "Not a Fan"

Nothing wrong with the performance. I don't think I'm a fan of Andersen's writing. She's a bit too cutesy for my taste. There were several cliche lines and scenes that I found cringe-worthy and hard to get past. If you like über cheesy romance, you'll probably appreciate this more than I did.

    "Funny, witty romantic comedy"

This is a typical Susan Andersen offering with loads of snappy dialogue, lots of humour, along with an instant (unwelcome) attraction between the two main characters.

The hero is a bounty hunter who manages to take captive the wrong woman, not realising she has an identical twin. The twin with the bounty on her head is a flashy, confident, overtly sexy showgirl, while her sister (the unwilling captive) is a modestly dressed, slightly repressed, school teacher. During the course of this story the showgirl learns to finally start taking responsibility for her own mistakes, while her twin learns to embrace her wild side, embrace life and gets forced out of the conservative, buttoned up, pigeon hole she has been hiding in. They both fall in love – of course – and along the way both mature in completely different ways.

There is a small amount of suspense in this plot, but as the main bad guy is hilariously incompetent, the focus of the story does remain on the bounty hunter’s futile attempts to get the school teacher to Court, and her very funny attempts to sabotage him. Along the way their initial attraction turns into something more serious, and although this is a fast developing romance, it somehow still feels authentic.

The only minor criticism is that this book is obviously dated, with computers being used for business purposes only and mobile phones yet to be in common usage. But the joy of this romantic comedy is not diminished by this. Special mention must go to the brilliant narrating which only added to the enjoyment of this book.
