Eleven thousand years ago, before the seas swallowed the Atlanteans, Poseidon assigned a few chosen warriors to act as sentinels for humans in the new world. There was only one rule - desiring them was forbidden. But rules were made to be broken.
Riley Dawson is more than a dedicated Virginia Beach social worker. She's blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years. Being an "empath" may explain her wistful connection to the roiling waves of the ocean, the sanctuary it provides, and the sexual urges that seem to emanate from fathoms below....
Conlan, the High Prince of Atlantis, has surfaced on a mission to retrieve Poseidon's stolen trident. Yet something else has possessed Conlan: the intimate emotions - and desires - of a human. Irresistibly drawn to the uncanny beauty, Conlan soon shares more than his mind. But in the midst of a battle to reclaim Poseidon's power, how long can a forbidden love last between two different souls from two different worlds?

"Alyssa Day creates an amazing and astonishing world in Atlantis Rising [that] you'll want to visit again and again. Atlantis Rising is romantic, sexy, and utterly compelling. I loved it!" (Christine Feehan)
I love this series and I am very pleased that Audible has picked it up. Alyssa gives us a totally different view of the supernatural world with her Warriors of Poseidon. I really loved her take on the Atlantis mythology and how she adds vamps and weres into the mix. The love story can be a little corny at times, but that, to me, is just a part of the "formal speak" of Conlan's people so it fits. The only thing I was not thrilled with was the narrator. Joshua Swanson has a great tone of voice but I think he kinda of over does it when reading this type of story. His style, to me, would be more for a children's story where the more drama the better. At times through out the story it gets a bit too much. I see that he is slated to do the rest of the series and I can only hope he tones it down a bit, and changes the pronunciation of the word em-path. He sounds like he is saying "M-pith" stressing the M and pith instead of PATH. I know it is silly to mention one single word, but it is just a pet peeve of mine. So, my rating for the book itself is a 5 star but the narration is only 3 star (if that). I will round it out to a 4 star total. (I wish there was a way to give separate ratings and then a final rating). I will probably buy the next book to see if Joshua is any better. If not.............maybe if they go on a $4.99 sale.
I also need to mention........for those who are not into explicit sex and language, this series may not be for you.
I don???t know which was worse: The narrator or the dialogue. The narrator tried ??? bless his little inept heart, he really did. But he sucked rocks. I???ve been listening to audio books for years, and this guy rivals the worst narrator I have ever heard (See Juanita Parker who is the narrator for the original Dark Prince by Christine Feehan. Great Feehan book ??? pitiful narrator). I can???t believe that the rest of these Atlantis books are also narrated by Joshua Swanson. The man should be selling cars, not narrating books.
Adding insult to severe injury is the dialogue in this book. I rolled my eyes so many times I was worried they???d get stuck in my forehead. Such pathetic attempts at masculine warrior banter and bad, tired jokes were so hard to listen to I threw up in my mouth a little.
This book could have been exceptional. I give the author props for the original idea. Maybe reading this book would have been better, I don???t know. All I do know is that I wanted to physically harm the narrator and repeatedly ask the author, ???Really? Is that the best you could come up with???? Wow - this really bit the big one people. Avert your eyes and move along.
I was so looking forward to this series it sounded great BUT… The narrator is so bad he tries to use different (bad) voices for each person, then the back and forth between the formal speech and the street slang is so off putting I think if the just didn’t randomly go into the formal speech then it would mesh fine with the street slang but just pop in because someone says something that they think is important is just off putting. I could only get 2 hours into this book before I had to shut it off or stomp my mp3 player to death. WASTE of my CREDIT!!!
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
Ok.. the bad reviews about this book/series is way way off. This was freakin awesome! Let's jump right into the narration b/c that seems to be what the bad reviews are about.
Swanson did an awesome job. Yes, his character voices sound a little overexaggerated like narrators for children storys...but that is what made this book come alive. I loved it. Every single character had personality just from the emotion used by Swanson. The the smex was great too, it didn't sound kidish at all. The narration is what made this book so good, I think... I was blown away.
Now the story... Awesome... Atlantis!!! Who don't like Atlantis, and Day's take on it was awesome... This story is about the Prince of Atlantis and a Empathy... it was simply awesome, sweet, romantic and packed with drama and action.
I plan to invest into the complete series... I cannot wait to get to Aleric's book... which is the last book. So yeah... I will get them all...
Great Credit or Sale. It's a bit pricey so if you don't plan to invest into the whole series, just wait for your credit.
Interesting twist on Atlantis fantasy.
I was on a trip with a very long drive and was able to listen completely thru. Made the long drive very entertaining.
I have already purchased the rest of the series to listen to. Looking forward to the other Warriors stories.
Story lacked content and substance.
I have never written a review before but please don't waste your money.
It was just asenine and stupid. So Sorry.
His voice just didn't reflect what I felt the character's would have sounded like, but then the whole thing was a disappointment.
mostly disappointment and annoyance.
Just really sorry and not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings but really bad.
I was fascinated by the mythos described in summaries and reviews of this book, but twenty minutes into the audiobook I gave up. I am completely on-board with the idea that ancient immortals are going to develop language that's appropriate to the time period, but I was so thrown by an ancient demigod with a mouth like a New York main sewer that I turned the book off. I just couldn't get past it. Too much too soon, and not at all a character that encouraged me to delve more deeply into the series. Perhaps it gets better, but as an opener it was too off-putting for me to be able to suffer through to what may be a genuinely interesting storyline.
I found this book to be incredibly...corny. I had to stop listening after a couple of chapters and I was incredibly upset I wasted one of my monthly credits on this disaster. I enjoy fantasy based books, but this book was so far fetched and over written, that I couldn't get into it.
Too much swearing....it's distracting. I wanted to believe your story, but I was horribly disappointed.
All of them.
I liked the hotness of the man-crew that is the warriors of Poseidon, but the dialogue and writing just isn't natural. I'm happy to suspend my beliefs for fantasy romance, but this guy's voices are so silly. Between that and the crappy dialogue, it just isn't believable. It isn't the worst I've had, but it wasn't for me. I won't be reading the next.
Better voices especially for Conlin and all the bad guys. So goofy.
