Publisher's summary

Some things just won’t stay buried… at grave’s end.

It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover, Bones, at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.

As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’ past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave.

Critic reviews

“Each successive chapter in Frost’s exceptional Night Huntress series adds more complexity, death-defying action, and fiery romance. While expertly deepening Cat and Bones’ love story, Frost also keeps the plot revelations absorbing and the jeopardy remorseless. In an increasingly rich and vibrant genre, she continues to prove she’s a star.” ( Romantic Times)
“A can’t-put-down masterpiece that’s sexy-hot and a thrill-ride on every page. I’m officially addicted to the series.” (Gena Showalter, New York Times best-selling author)

Perfect imagery

Although the lead annoyed the mess out of me I simply cannot quit this series! I look forward to each new tale and the combination of the writing and narration are awesome! It was Deborah Harkness who got me started down the Vampire pathway and these are wonderful lighter but no less imaginative reads.

I didn't even know I liked urban fantasy novels!

Before starting the Night Huntress series, I honestly had no idea I even liked paranormal/supernatural novels. But Jeaniene Frost does an excellent job, and has completely converted me. Start from the first book and move forward. Frost does a good job of trying to explain the back-stories, but her novels are complex and you really need to read the complete series to fully understand what's happening. The steamy passion between Cat and Bones does not lessen in this book. If anything, it deepens. More importantly, these are not the exact same characters you read about in books 1 & 2. Frost's characters grow and change with their life circumstances.

I will give a warning though: This book has some serious ups and downs. There's not just one plot height, but several. And it likely features more violence than some people are comfortable with.

Tavia Gilbert continues to be a SUPERB narrator. No one could have done a better job. The voices of the different characters never falter.

Best one yet!

It did not take long for me to decide I needed to read this entire series after the first book but I think this book is my favorite. I devoured this book. The story was full of energy and did not stop moving. New characters were introduced and of course, plenty of Cat and Bones. The narrator was able to bring out such an emotion in me as a listener as she told this story. Jeaniene has created such a wonderful world..I can't wait to see what she has planned next.

Another great series addition <3 Cat & Bones

4.5-5 stars

This was another great addition to the series. Cat and Bones are still a great couple in this series and I really enjoyed seeing what they had to face next.

Cat is a half-vampire that works for a government agency killing and/or capturing bad vamps that kill humans. Her husband (at least in the vampire world) is a vamp named Bones (Yum!) who is over 200 years old, a master vamp and will do anything to ensure that his woman (Cat..that lucky girl!) is kept by his side and safe. They've had separations in the past and are determined not to let anything come between them now. Cat and Bones are a great couple...one of my fave PNR couples in fact. They have a great chemistry together and the way they interact just makes it obvious that they're perfect for each other.

Cat is working for the government agency and Bones is helping..not because he really wants to but because Cat wants to and Bones will do whatever he needs to to give Cat what she wants while still keeping her safe. Unfortunately, because of her years hunting vamps, a lot of the vamps are familiar with the rumors of "the red reaper" and now it's become even more dangerous for Cat to preform as the bait for their vamp traps. They end up trying to use a captive vamp (promising freedom for cooperation) but it doesn't end up working too well and causes more problems than it's worth. Cat ends up having some major issues when her father decides to come after her again. Cat barely comes through it but on the good side it helps her and her mother's relationship improve so some good comes of it. Cat's mother actually shows some slackening of her hatred of the undead in this book and it's a welcome, although surprising, change in attitude. There's also an unexpected development as Mencheres (who is Bone's grand-sire and an extremely strong and old vamp) offers Bones a partnership where they will merge their lines, become co-rulers of their lines and Mencheres also will give Bones a power boost (something rare and very sought after).

Bones agrees to Mencheres' offer and they become co-rulers. In addition to becoming stronger in general, Bones gets some spiffy new powers with the power boost that end up being very helpful. Unfortunately, just as they become partners, someone tries to blow the mansion up that the merging ceremony is taking place and it becomes apparent that war has come calling. Mencheres and Bones draw the lines and gather their allies for the coming conflict. There is much planning and some unexpected allies show up. The fighting begins and both sides throw some punches, there is some trouble and for a while, no one knows where Bones and Cat (and her allies) are made to think that he's dead. Things are rough for a bit but Cat is determined to forge on and do what needs to be done to hold things together and avenge Bones. This ends up being unnecessary but in the mean time, Cat makes a new friend (I love Vlad!!) and shows everyone just how tough she is. Fortunately, Bones returns safe and sound (so to speak) and is happily reunited with Cat. This doesn't end the fighting though and they have to go through more danger and friends are lost as their enemy uses magic (which is against vampire law for vamps to use) to attempt to kill them all. With perseverance, Cat & Bones and their allies are able to get through the tough times and finally take out their enemy. It's a very good story and very interesting. Although the romance between Cat and Bones is set, I never felt like the story let their relationship suffer or fall to the side. The action story line was great and kept me hopping until the end and wondering what will happen next. The books ends with the current conflict settled and Cat and Bones together and ready for the next thing that life throws at them.

This was another greatly enjoyable addition to the series. I love Cat and Bones! Really, I love all the characters in the series, even the secondary ones are great and add a lot to the stories. This book was very well done and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I"d recommend this book. 2 thumbs up! :D

Growth for the characters, but not as much romance

If you could sum up At Grave’s End in three words, what would they be?

Growth, Inner Battles

What other book might you compare At Grave’s End to and why?

This one is really about the world that they are living in - because they are already established as a couple - so it stands out as rather unique.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

Bones is always my favorite, his accent is so specific you know exactly when he enters a room.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Things will change.
