Publisher's Summary

Gabriel “Gart” Forbes is the most powerful knight in the arsenal of David de Lohr, Baron Thornden, brother to the mighty Earl of Hereford. When Julian de Moyon, Baron Buckland, summons Thornden for critical support, Gart travels to Dunster Castle to meet with Buckland.

Upon arrival, he is set upon by three young boys who try to rob him, all sons of Baron Buckland. Gart discovers that their mother, the Lady Emberley de Moyon, is the sister of his long-dead best friend. Remembering the lovely young girl from the days of his youth, Gart quickly realizes she has grown into a woman of magnificent beauty. He also comes to realize that Julian is a monster who beats his wife.

At first, Gart is protective of an old friend but soon, he cannot control the emotions he is feeling for Emberley. A beaten and emotionally starved woman, Emberley cannot help her feelings for a man she has loved most of her life.shuc Succumbing to a forbidden love, Gart and Emberley find powerful allies in Baron Thornden and the Earl of Hereford as they plot to convince Julian to divorce his wife.

Adding to the chaos is the fact that Julian has taken up in a love affair with Queen Isabella. When the queen begins to find interest in another man, Julian is furious and wants to use Emberley to make the queen jealous. Gart, however, keeps Emberley well hidden from her husband, even as the Church seeks to intervene.

Through trickery, Julian discovers where Gart has hidden his wife and traps the woman, intending to kill her for her treachery. Gart is unable to help her, listening to her screams of terror, when aid comes from the most unexpected of sources. Divine intervention comes in many forms in this deeply passionate love story.

I am quiet and love being comfortable. I love curling up in a corner either reading or listening to a nice romantic book.

    "Good book but.................."

Firstly I must say that Kathryn is now one of my favorite authors! With that said, I have listened/read most of her books. This one reads nearly identical to another and I was a bit disappointed because of that but still enjoyed the story. The narrator though, should not read romance novels at all. Nothing against Daniel and this was my first time listening to him but his voice is more suited for maybe mysteries...........I think! Or something else other than historical romance, I literally wanted to pull my hair out sometimes. I tried to speed up his voice or slow it down but just could not get into his voice at all. I found myself saying several times, please just let this book be over with. I will be ever so cautious and not listen to any other book that he is narrating to. Just not my cup of tea!

Love books about creatures of all sorts. Bored with explicit sexual verbiage - less is more.

"Great Story, Narration Not So Much"
What made the experience of listening to Archangel the most enjoyable?

Narrator can not do female voices well at all and made them sound like little mice. Also, Gart, the main character sounded like an oaf or either he was trying out for the male lead in Pygmalion.

What other book might you compare Archangel to and why?

Some type of King Arthur or Avalon.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Gart could have been done in a more educated version of an English accent, not sounding like the stable boy.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rom was telling the Earl and his brother how his father treated his mother.

    Any additional comments?

    Great story, crappy narration.

"Why have Grandpa narrate a romance book!"

This was a nice story, but dear God, who would have picked Grandpa Dorse to narrate a romance story. I cringed through the whole story. And even worse, he narrates other Le Veque books. I bought the audio already, but I'll read them instead.

    "Audiobook is AWFUL!"

This book is great... but the audiobook is terrible. I can usually handle even the worst of narrators, but Daniel Dorse's interpretation actually detracts from the meaning of the narrative.
Add to that the multitude of production problems and this is a book that is better in print than in audiobook format.

    "Terible Narration"
    Any additional comments?

The story may be very good but I just could not listen to more than 1 hour. It sounded as if it had been recorded at a lower than normal speed. The narration voice to low and gravely. The reduced speed made this very unpleasant. Even downloaded at the enhanced setting and using a graphic equalizer made little improvement.

    "Good story"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

    The narrator

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the characters. Some characters from other Le Veque stories were brought into the story, too.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Daniel Dorse?

Phil Gigante. I think Daniel might be alright reading an entirely different kind of book. Historical romance is not his cup of tea. He sounded really old, but the worse thing was he made the main character sound like some big, simple-minded oaf. There was no way to believe Gabriel to be a handsome sexy main character who even had a chance with the main female character. Gabriel sounded like her slow witted Grandfather. Also, he went overboard on the main villain's character, it was laughable. In fact when the main female character was crying and in distress, the way it was read made me laugh. It was really hard to appreciate the story, which is a good one, through the narration.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Depends on who the actors are.

"Such Torture---Will the Ever Be Happy?"
What made the experience of listening to Archangel the most enjoyable?

The narrator. At first I struggled to hear and understand him because of his low, deep voice. But as the story progressed, I decided it truly could not have better been performed by any other. His portrayal of Gart was fantastic.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gart. I loved his voice, I loved his loyalty and devotion, and I loved how he interacted with the young boys in the story.

Which character – as performed by Daniel Dorse – was your favorite?

Gart--again, because of the fantastic portrayal by Daniel Dorse.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I nearly chewed my fingernails off with worry about how they would ever escape the horrible situations they would find themselves in. I laughed at the antics of the little heathens. And oh my, the love that was between the hero and his lady nearly made me swoon.

    Any additional comments?

Fantastic. As with any story by this author, at times it absolutely rips your heart out with the seemingly impossible situations the characters find themselves in. But, also as always, the triumph of love makes it all worth it in the end.

Couldn't any better? Kay seems to get more intricate in each novel. She addresses issues like Adultery, abuse, and yet brings true love winning over all! Can't wait to read the next one!❤️
