Publisher's summary

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that Prince Charming would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other - except perhaps this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?

Excellent, Touching!

If you could sum up An Offer from a Gentleman in three words, what would they be?

Finding true love

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Offer from a Gentleman?

There were so many memorable moments. When Benedict rescues Sophie from the son of the household she was working at, and from the son's drunken friends, was one.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She always gives a great performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and did. I started listening to it in the afternoon and did not finish until the wee hours of the next day.

Any additional comments?

The book was wonderfully written and the performance perfection.

Much better after "Cinderella" goes away.

Would you listen to An Offer from a Gentleman again? Why?

Maybe. The recreation of the Cinderella story may not be as disconcerting as it was the first time around. After the too obvious, the story was much better.

Would you recommend An Offer from a Gentleman to your friends? Why or why not?

Maybe. It is fun. It is fluff and it was so much better after the author got away from the exact Cinderella story.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scenes in the jail and then in front of the magistrate. The truth comes out!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

The first part of the story so paralleled the Cinderella story that I could not lose myself in the tale. After it changed, I enjoyed a typical romantic story.

Good grief

Early into the book, Benedict starts acting almost exactly like the men he rescued Sophie from, except under the guise of intense attraction. Because he has a nice family and he's handsome, we're supposed to overlook his outrageous treatment of Sophie. His character quickly devolves to his sex drive made worse by bullying, disrespect, and manipulation. He is self-centered and doesn't even want to hear her talk. This book could have been so much more, and it certainly isn't romantic.

I just didn't like Benedict

So I got into this book and enjoyed it, but unfortunately just overall thought Benedict was a giant ass. I had a hard time rooting for the relationship when the Prince Charming was constantly belittling the stated wishes of the Cinderella, calling her stupid, and doing his best to get his own way even when she has said multiple time that what he wants doesn't work for her.

Even his "awakening" when he apologizes was not satisfying, because I didn't feel like he REALLY got it, and more like he only decided he was wrong because he found out that her social level was not entirely what he thought it was. Ug.

Classic series.

Loving this series. Worth the wait for it's arrival on audio and it's been many years. Perfect storytelling and narration.

Another great Brigerton installment

I just love this family and Julia Quinn continues to make them so likeable. This book in particular I really enjoyed Mama V, probably because I see myself in her and loved how she managed things at the end of the book. Made me really lol. It was a LITTLE hard to really fathom the story line with Benedict falling for a maid, but it wasn't too big a deal. Sophie held on a little too tight to why she couldn't/wouldn't be with him, but I guess that's kind of how you have to keep a story going. It was nice how we got some personality introductions for the upcoming Brigertons since we all only 'know' A-D. :o) All in all I loved the book and totally look forward to moving on to the next one. I'm listening to a couple different books first though just to try to savor the series!!

Okay

Any additional comments?

In my opinion this was not the best of the Bridgerton series. It was a little over the top with the Cinderella theme and went on too long for the story it was trying to lay out for the reader. The performer did her usual excellent job with the book. She made the time spent worthwhile. I love Rosalyn Landor's performances.

it was a little hard to get in to this one

it was a little hard to get in to this story and I put it down for months but I got more then half way through it and then was truly intrested in finishing it . Other stores in this series are much more intriguing and I never put down but this one left me wanting. in the end it did finish well. I just wish it did not take till chapter 16 to pick up.
