Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he never wants revealed - until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.
Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers, and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both. War has never been more deadly...or more fun.
Love in vein: listen to another Dark-Hunter novel.

I love Kenyon's work. Always have and always will. In the past I have been more than a little disappointed by the clumsy, almost criminally bad narration used for some of her earlier titles. Now in walks Holter Graham and my long standing fancy for the dark, brooding and sexy Ash (Acheron) becomes a full blown crush! I absolutely adore this narrator and really loved the story. NEWBIES BEWARE- there are very strong tones of violence and sadistic childhood abuse in this and some other Kenyon titles. In Acheron's case it's fair to call this extreme and totally heart wrenching. There is also a healthy does of explicit sex. That said, all of the aforementioned ADULT content serves the plot impeccably and builds solid gold characters the reader can easily invest in. I literally wanted to throw my arms around some of these characters. Others I could get medieval on to stop their sadistic tendencies.
All in all- I loved the story and from now on will have a special place in my heart for a certain Nickleback song (wink wink).
This was my first book by the author. I am glad I was taken in by all of the hype. Even though the beginning of the book is tough to get through because of the hardship Ash goes through, it allows the reader to sympathize with Ash and love him more. Great narration!
This is by far, the best book in the series. So many questions answered and the characters really come to life. I enjoyed it a great deal.
This book is several years overdue past its original deadline. I am pleased it when it finally arrived and it was not a disappointment. The audible book reader was *outstanding*. Fantastic. I was so pleased I also read the hard cover in addition to this audiobook. It is one of the few I have listened to multiple times. I can say that this is not an author whose work I display on my library shelves. Nor do I read her books over and over. But Acheron was excellent and I have listened to it repeatedly.
Some parts are rather sad and sometimes I skip those but the book, overall I have been terribly pleased with it. I think the audible reader's vocal talents are to be highlighted.
With the added flavor of the vocal talents of the actor, it took it over the top. Most of the feedback and reviews that were critical of the amount of pages devoted to the miserable beginning of Acherons life. That criticism was pretty scathing. Too little page percentage weighted for happier in balance with his overall lifetime. While it was an a sad life, and I would have liked it to have been a bit happier, I think people need to ease up. I am just glad the story has finally been told. This author has been dribbling out tidbits about this character for over a decade and now the meat and potatoes arrived.
In fact, I'd like to see another book on Acheron. I loved it.
Busy mom who loves to read but doesn't always have the time. I enjoy YA, Romance and the occasional Best Seller.
Although I've never read any Dark Hunter novels or any other books by Sherrilyn Kenyon I really enjoyed this story! Holter Graham is amazing!
This book was awesome and explained things from previous books. The reader, Holter Graham, was wonderful and I hope he is the reader for other Sherrilyn Kenyon books as wells as Christine Feehan.
What to say about Acheron. The first 2/3 of the book is very difficult to listen to or read. It's brutal and cruel, but it does explain Ash's life, but I think it was just a little bit TOO long. Like another reviewer wrote, we got that he was treated like crap with the first few hundred pages, still, it was over 400 pages of brutality and hate. She broached a lot of taboo subjects and for that I have to give her props.
Rape, incest, brutality and sexual violence were deeply ingrained in most of this book and some people are very sensitive to that kind of thing.
For years my friend and I have been trying to figure out who Ash's HEA would be and it turns out I was right.
As for their interaction, she seemed to deal with him and everything that he is/was with a grain of salt and it was almost too easy in that regard. Maybe it was because of his past, that he needed someone, just once, to say ok, I'll take you as you are.
Ash wanted/needed love. To be loved and to know love. He gets that with this book, but I can't help but wonder how this will change him in the future of the series.
I also wonder about his brother and what happens with him at the end of the book. Somethings were done to death and others seemed to be glossed over quickly where I think they should have been explored and explained more for a more in depth view of it all.
It was nice to see some old faces also, but again, not much was new or settled there. They were just kinda there to say that they were.
Things with Nick are still bitter and raw and Artie, man, she's a piece of work. I can't wait until she gets hers.
It is at times hard to imagine that Ash, the leader of the DH let people treat him like he had for thousands of years. sometimes I wonder simply. WHY didn't he just LEAVE? Get on a ship and go somewhere else? Walk out of his fathers house when he was old enough? Why sit there, where everyone hates you. He could have saved himself a lot of pain.
Acheron gets his HEA, and basically that is what all of us DarkHunter fans have been wanting for a long time. Unfortunately, Kenyon takes more than half of the book and devotes it to excruciating details of Ash's past. And, oh do I mean excruciating. If you don't like pain, don't read or listen to this book. It was hard to take sometimes, but it does explain what and why Acheron is. As for the narration, Holter did wonderfully, but I was thrown off by him pronouncing Ash's name as Asheron instead of Akeron as he did in Devil May Cry. Also, the Gallu demon who was the bad guy in DMC didn't have an accent in Acheron. The only thing I truly didn't like was that so many characters were repeatedly and unneccesarily stupid and/or cruel. It was kind of like Kenyon didn't think we'd get it, so she decided to bludgeon us over the head repeatedly that Ash had a horrible life.
This was the first Kenyon book that I listened to and I was instantly hooked. The narration of the this book is outstanding and the scope of its story is absolutely engaging. I will offer a warning, however. This book is not for the faint of heart. There are intense, and explicit scenes of violence and sexuality.
This book puts everything together for the other books but stands out all by itself.. Fantastic
Unmissable book and an excellent narrator 10 out of 10
This is a amazing audiobok, so much so that I had trouble putting it down. The narrator is very talented and never struggles to make you hold your breath in anticipation.
My only issue is that there are not more Sherrilyn Kenyon books on the audible.co.uk site when they are all on the audible.com.
None the less, this is one book you will not regret purchasing
"loved it but..."
I was very excited to finally fined out the howl story and unveil the mystery surrounding Ach. I enjoyed hearing about all my favorit caracters again. This book explaines a lot and is still great to lisent to with out having read the other books related to the story. And as always i love Kenyon sexy and funny style.
But after chapter after chapter of violence and abuse of the mane caracter i grew tired and bored with all the free violence. Sure the scenery is well set and the caracters and places are wonderfull to read but PLEASE give the guy a break !!! Even the sex scenes become tire some after a time. So all in all this one is a 50/50 book to me. Harf love / harf ZZZzzzZZZ
"Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon"
I loved this book when I finished it, it was like loosing an old friend!
So disappointed to find there are no more of the series on Audbile ......
Great story but be prepared for graphic depictions of sexual abuse and violence which are gut wrenching in places.
Exciting, Shocking, Enjoyable
Acheron - He is very complex and you go from feeling sorry for him, angry with him, desiring him, accusing him and so on. A brilliant Character
It's hard to choose one scene as all of it, from past to present is awesome.
A brilliant book with very well written characters. A must read for anyone.
"WOW...That explais so much,"
I really liked the fact that all the blanks that surrounded Ash have now been filled in. A few things things I had worked out already, but others WOW!
For me, I would have to say it was when he got drunk, on Sprite.
To be completely honest this was the first audibe title I have listened to in a few years, and really enjoyed listening to him read, it was a long book and I didn't get tired of listening to him.
I felt for Ash when he realized what he had done to Tori.
This is a series that I just can not get enough of. It is an awesome trip to take when you need a short break from the real world.
One of the best books in the series, the narrator puts plenty of passion in telling this amazing tale, highly recommend
Acheron is my favourite character
in places it made me very upset but as the story continued i felt greatly for the ending
highly recommend this book and the series, would like to have more to listen to
