Publisher's summary

The letters Kyla sent to her husband, Sergeant Richard Stroud, stationed a world away, spoke of a love that stretched across the ocean and held the young couple together. But when tragedy ended their marriage too soon, Kyla was left a widow with a newborn son. And Richard left behind only a metal box filled with his wife's declarations of love.

Trevor Rule had been Richard's best friend. Returning home from military duty, he carried with him the letters Kyla had sent. And with each one he read, he fell more in love with the gentle, passionate woman who had penned them. Now he needs to convince Kyla of his feelings and that they both have the right to be happy, to move past the tragedy of Richard's death.

But Trevor is harboring a secret, one with the power to destroy the love he is trying so hard to protect.

too drawn out

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

the storyline is good but just way too drawn out. had to skip some chapters because it was just too boring on the internal conflict of Kila. Seriously, I was starting to not even like her anymore. i usually enjoy re-listening to my audiobooks but not this one.

The Genre is Situational, though fantastic .

Loved everything about this monumental novel. Sandra Brown remains my favorite author and I'm male.

train wreck, just can't turn away.

Any additional comments?

this book was a total bummer. It had potential to be a great romance, but the fact it was written mid 1980's really dragged the story down. Perhaps if I were older and not raised with so much technology all around me, then i would enjoy reading about a time when we didn't have all these gadgets in our lives. other than that, the story is good, but you just want to stop reading because the characters are so foolish. playing cat and mouse with a slightly psychologically abusive edge. I think if the release date/ copyright had been more accurate i wouldn't have purchased the book.

No suspense and not likeable characters

I am a big fan of Ms Brown’s books in general.
In this book which I suspect is an earlier work of hers, the mystery and suspense was lacking, but I knew that going in.
What was really annoying though was the self pitying FMC, and the slightly stalkerish MMC.
Yes, our heroine had lost her husband in a terrible way, but no one forced her to get into a relationship with our hero. The whole story felt contrived and rushed. You didn’t really get close to and understand the characters in my opinion.
The one character that I really liked was the best friend and she had a glorious moment towards the end which was long overdue.
Jack Garrett, the narrator, did a good job as always.
Onwards to another Sandra Brown with the usual combination of suspense and romance.

Too much sex

This was an interesting book and the end was great. I had to keep fast forwarding through all long drawn out sex sagas.

Least favorite Sandra Brown novel.

I struggled to get thru this book. I'm guessing it's an early one. I missed the adventures and mystery of the others. And I didn't care for the sometimes misogynistic attitude of the main male character

Definitely Dated

As one reviewer noted, this is definitely dated, but kind of a nostalgic blast from the past if you don't mind the chauvanism. I love Sandra Brown, but I love her thrillers more than her love stories!! Considering that, this one was OK.

True Sandra Brown - Didn't Disappoint

Loved narrator. Good romance. Strong male character who was very persuasive. Touching love story that kept me glued.
