A Thirty-Something Girl follows the story of Hope. At the age of 30, she finds her life in utter shambles. Everything that could go wrong has - divorce, loss of a child, financial struggles. It is the love and unfettered support of her close friends who keep her from being lost in the quicksand of utter despair. As she slowly begins to wrap her head around who she is and what it means to be happy, she meets a man, Sam. Sam is also not a stranger to hardship and finds himself at his own crossroads. Together they find comfort and peace in one another; a soft, quiet place to fall, when the rest of the world is too hard and too noisy to inhabit.
A Thirty-Something Girl is a story about the power of human resilience, the importance of friendships, and the magic of true love. It is a story that teaches us (and reminds us) that happiness is actually a very simple concept: it is a choice. A choice we must remember to make each and every day.

Hope has been in denial of her own depression for years, then when her world collapses around her, she finally admits what has been going on and turns to her friends for support. This is Hope's journey of how she put her life back together and found a more positive outlook with a touch of romance and a real life happily ever after.
I'm a thirty-something girl and though I haven't been in Hope's situation, I still found her a very relatable and likeable character. I loved her close knit group of friends and how supportive they were of each other. It was a quick, easy read but still had depth. This story made me laugh and made me cry.
I listened to the audiobook edition, which I received free from the narrator in exchange for an honest review. I think she did a fabulous job and her voice was well suited to this story. I listened to the whole book in one go, I cleaned the house and took the kids to the park, all with my bluetooth headphones on.

The narration by Lori Faiella. I had listened to her narration of another book, Psychic Perception and really wanted to hear more read by her. That's what made me choose this book.
When Hope, the main character, begins to make small steps forward to reclaiming her life and her self esteem. The author was really able to convey the importance of these small steps, the value of support, and how truly difficult even the simplest things are for the depressed person.
She is a wonderful narrator with a lovely voice that is able to convey a wide spectrum of emotion without sounding forced or over dramatic. Her characterizations of the other people in the novel was wonderful, I felt as if I knew each of them from the way she spoke. Her voice drew me into the main character and made me feel understanding for her emotions.
This story is so well told it is both an almost clinical case study of depression and a teaching tale of how to move forward in the face of seemingly overwhelming inner and outer obstacles. It is much more than an interesting read, it is almost a recovery plan and beacon of light for those in the darkest times of their lives. I have depressed friends and it showed me value of not giving up on them. I will recommend they listen to it.
I hope to listen to more audio books narrated by Lori Faiella. Hers is the standout listening experience of the year. I hope she can narrate more mysteries, those are my favorites..
I like this book because it dealt with real life issues.
I enjoyed this book. In some spots i wanted to cry with Hope, and in some spots i wanted to shake her and tell her it will be OK. Not sure how i feel about the ending of the book, but i guess that is real life for you, you never know what is going to happen.
It makes me happy to wake up everyday and look forward to listening. Many times I listen while doing artwork. I find it very relaxing.
"A Thirty-Something Girl" is an interesting story. It's about a young woman named Hope who finds herself in a failed relationship that her and her husband had both participated in. With the help of her friends, she slowly begins to think she can overcome the seemingly difficult situation.
She eventually lands a new job as a free-lance editor and meets a man named Sam. The only thing is, when she first met him, she didn't catch his name and while writing in her journal later she coincidentally gave him the very same imaginary name.
I felt this was a good listen. It was sobering with a depressing feel at first but it goes along with the territory of breaking up. What I took away from it was the importance of keeping a journal and having close friends and giving oneself time to heal, especially when a situation such as this arises.
Overall, I had mixed feelings about this story but with a little Faith, it had a bittersweet ending.
About the narrator: Lori Faiella has a beautiful soft voice. She has good control and tone and stayed consistent throughout the story. She also has good character differentiation. I always knew who was speaking.
Audiobook gifted in exchange for review
Thirty-Something Girl is a moving story of how one woman overcomes depression and a series of bad choices.
I liked this story because the author truly understands depression. The reader is thrust into the bodily experience through the detailed descriptions. The lack of motivations, the loss of time, the repeating negative thoughts that you just can't get out of your head. All these things made me feel and understand the character and why she makes the choices she does.
There were a few parts that were very, very slow, and the ending was quite abrupt. Those are the only reasons I can't give it a full 5 stars.
The narration was good too. Even with so many female characters, I was almost always able to tell them apart.
I felt like I could really relate to Hope. I felt the story was very realistic. my heart hurt for her and all the loss she must go through, but the way she still chooses to live life and move on is inspirational.
I love the narration. Lori Faiella was a pleasure to listen to.
yes for sure... Everyone could relate to this book it's real and not about something that is far fetched...
I can't chose just one...
At the hospital when everyone was there for each other and when Sam came back for Hope
Lori Faiella Wow you did an awesome job with the narration on this book your voice was dead on with the characters you could picture them while listening.....
Avid reader (listener) and Audible Fan!
This is one of the hardest reviews I have ever written. It is a story of love, loss, friendship, determination, depression, and so much more. "Life is not easy" and I doubt there is anyone who cannot relate, in some way, to the emotions and/or situations portrayed in this wonderful book. Do we choose happiness or do we let our mindset sabotage our choices? Beautifully written and exquisitely narrated. This work will stay with you long after the last word. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
I liken this to a Bridgette Jones type of book but on a darker level. The Hope found that her husband was cheating and the hero, Sam, is no longer married after a traumatic event.
Hope is determined NOT to find love again because she thinks she is unworthy. Sam has a lot of issues but encourages a relationship. A series of events land them together and they help one another work through all of their previous stuff.
There are some glossed over intimacy situations for those who do not like graphic descriptions. While *I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my thoughts, opinions and review* I highly recommend it. It is the kind of book I would purchase my own.
The narrator does a wonderful job with multiple characters. I could easily distinguish between the four female friends and Sam was the only male of any consequence.
I was really happy with the story and I will look for other work by this author & narrator.
Notes: Nothing to warn about in this one.
Credit worthy/$: Yes for either option. This is a bit heavier than the Chic Lit beach read. But it kept my interest and I was able to listen to all of it in one sitting.
Thank you for reading my review. If you have found it helpful please select yes at the end of this sentence (just down below). Thank you!
The Thirty-Something Girl was a nice, east story to listen to. Lori Faiella did a a very good job narrating the story, giving voice and emotion to each character. I will be looking for more audio books narrated by her.
