Joanna Price is a city girl with the perfect life. She loves her job as a book editor, she just married Liam, high-profile, best-selling author and the man of her dreams, and she's headed to the Caribbean to enjoy two weeks of paradise for her luxurious honeymoon.
Connor Duffield is a gruff, grumpy rancher from the Midwest. He is a country boy who has a no-nonsense approach to life, more scars than he'd like to admit, and he hates city girls.
So it's just a misfortune they have to sit next to each other for a six-hour plane ride. Even more so when their flight is caught in the perfect storm and Joanna wakes up stranded on a desert island with Connor, the very man she hoped she would never have to see again.
Why are they alone on this forsaken island? What happened to Joanna's husband?
When her dream honeymoon turns into a hilarious tropical nightmare, Joanna's first thought is survival. However, she and Connor will quickly discover just how boring paradise can be. As the days turn to weeks, and then months, this mismatched pair will have to learn how to coexist and how to resist the sparkles of an attraction they weren't prepared to feel.
When they are finally rescued, will Joanna's marriage be saved as well, or will the life she knew and loved be in ruins?

Hell hath no fury like a woman interrupted while listening to a really good book!
What an AMAZING story! I LOVED it!
I believe a good romance should take you away from the everyday, evoke emotions, and make you fall in love with the characters, and that's actually what A Sudden Crush did! I was rooting for Connor and Anna from the very beginning!
The plot was captivating, with lot's of humor, and a little heartache, but with a heart warming HEA. (The story is told from Joanna's POV.) I was hooked from the first page, and hanging on to each chapter. From the very moment Connor and Joanna met on the plane, their personalities just did not mix, so when they ended up marooned on an island together, it was funny picturing these two going from hostile, to co-existing to actually getting along. For being the only two people of the island, they eventually made a good team.
Don't want to spoil anymore of the plot, but I will say following Joanna throughout the story is like an emotional roller coaster with lot's of ups and downs. I actually laughed and cried with this story!
Not sure if this is Tami Leah Lacy's first audiobook she's narrated, but she did an OUTSTANDING job! All the characters sounded great, and she delivered on all of different the emotions. Kudos!
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review, and honestly loved the story. I definitely recommend this story for any romantic at heart! It was excellent!
I wish I could remember whose review I read that compelled me to buy this book but I'd like to thank them. This is a perfectly breezy summer book that isn't trashy or too sappy. Yes, you can still expect a heroine who can be annoying at times and completely unbelievable scenarios. However, you can enjoy a romance where people actually get to know each other, are realistic about past relationships, and someone trying to find themselves. It's funny, sweet, and reminiscent of Sophie Kinsella. Hope this author will have more books coming soon.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hahaha, I love the beginning!! It’s just so cool and hilarious! I know I’m gonna love the rest of the book!!!
I have just finished the book and can safely say that I’m emotionally winded!! OMG!! The book is a rollercoaster ride and a wonderful one at that. The synopsis of the book is so totally off point. It summarizes that the book is about a new bride on the way to her honey moon who falls in love with the person she sits next to on the plane. This is sooo wrong. She doesn’t fall for the guy next to her in a single plane ride. The fact that she’s stranded on a deserted island for 5 months with this guy is totally missed out. I know the author tried us make it out so we don’t feel like castrating Liam towards the end of the book where Joanna understands, or is supposed to understand what Liam when through and how he’s devoted to his baby daughter and all that. Frankly he’s a pathetic excuse for a man. I just want to tie him up to a pole and set fire to him. Let’s not forget the champaign while we watch him burn. I loved that Joanna is a woman of strong character, a person who stood by her man even though she had no ideas if he was alive or not. Something we can’t say for the ‘Swine’! How she picked herself up and made things happen for herself after everything and everybody seemed to be against her. I just loved Joanna! I couldn’t help rooting for her verbally out loud while I was reading this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to read more from this particular author. It’s a shame this is a stand alone title, would have loved a series where Liam and Joanna are pitted against each other more often.
Lost in Literature
YES! It was very entertaining and fun!
The adorable monkey. :)
I loved her narration and how she brought these characters to life for me.
YES! It's very easy to listen to this entire book in one sitting.
It was such a fun read! I'd definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a lightheaded, fun and cute romantic comedy. Perfect for a rainy day indoors or a day at the beach.
I like how easy going it feels, the story could have been very different because the main character is in a plane accident but it takes a much more laidback approach and I never felt scared for the characters but more entertained by them. I didn’t like Joanna’s personality all the time, having the story told from her point of view was OK but I would have liked to know what Connor was thinking too.
I really appreciated how devoted Joanna was to her husband even though she didn’t know what happened to him.
If you’re looking for a fun story I think A Sudden Crush is a good time.
I loved this book and I don’t say that about many books! It is funny, refreshing, entertaining and all consuming. I didn’t want to stop listening once I began. It is a light, fun, chick-lit story that is very well written.
I received the Audible version of this book in exchange for an honest review. The book was narrated by Tami Leah Lacy and she did an awesome job. It flowed well and the voice was pleasing. Not too fast or too slow and just the right amount of character voice change.
I totally recommend this book. It is a quick read/listen and you won’t be disappointed!
I LOVED this book. I was fortunate enough to get a review copy of this audio in exchange for my honest review, and although I am not normally into romance novels, this one just sounded right up my alley, and I am so pleased to say it didn't disappoint at all.
This reminded me of some of my favorite chic lit authors (ie, Sophie Kinsella). I enjoyed this book from the start to the finish. I was just as lost as our two main characters, and I was laughing and tearing up right along with them. I love that our heroine is strong, and didn't let life get the best of her. She was a female role that you could really root for, and get behind.
Now I listened to this on audio (although, be still my heart, that cover is just stunning) and I have to give huge props to the narrator, she did an amazing job. I can't wait to listen to other books that she narrates.
I am so thankful that I was able to listen to this book, and provide my honest opinion, this has been one of my favorite reads this year.
A Sudden Crush by Camilla Isley is a smart fun read that is perfect for a summer vacation or holiday week-end. The story is basically a classic "opposites attract" story where the main characters dislike each other in the beginning but eventually learn to appreciate and even admire one another. It is well written and immensely entertaining, and you will want to finish it in one sitting.
The story begins just after Liam, a best-selling author, marries his book editor, Joanna. As they begin their honeymoon to the Caribbean, there is a mixup with the reservation and Joanna is seated on the airplane beside a gruff rancher named Connor while Liam is seated next to a supermodel. Neither newlywed has success in getting the person seated next to them to change seats. Soon after the flight takes off, Joanna and Connor are sucked out of the airplane and they miraculously survive by landing on palm trees on a deserted island. Although at first they hate each other because they come from so very different lives, they learn to live with each other and eventually respect the other. Joanna has a few strengths that Connor lacks and vice versa.
I really appreciated how Joanna never gave up hope of being rescued or forgot her marriage vows, despite her growing attraction (and lust) for Connor. But, I was a little surprised that after being rescued (about 1/2-way through the book), Connor just disappears from the story until near the end. I understand why - Joanna has a lot to get sorted out in her life after discovering that Liam moved on and got remarried while she was stranded on the island. I just wish I knew more about what Connor was doing, thinking, and feeling while Joanna was getting her life back together.
I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Tami Leah Lacy who did an excellent job. Her narration flowed smoothly and she had differing voices for male and female characters. I was provided a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.
This romance qualifies as a love story, an adventure into recovery from physical, emotional, and actual seeming disasters!
You cannot resist continuing to the "last page"
Yes I would because I really liked this fun, emotional, romance comedy. I enjoy escaping the real world in books, and this one does the trick.
My favorite character would have to be Joanna Price who changes and grows during the book. She is strong, spunky, and quick witted. I like the way she speaks her mind, although she sometimes regrets it. Joanna's character makes us feel what she is feeling.
No I have not, but I will look for her.
Great all round fun romantic comedy.
