Publisher's summary

Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence.

For seven years Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side - counseling him from the shadows, healing him, and staving off the worst of his loneliness. Blessed - or cursed - with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him, leading Dillon and his people to believe she is the same wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything - even the wrath of his king - to be with her.

"As in the best audiobooks, it's the joining of Duvall's carefully constructed romance and Potter's consummate voices that yields this excellent production." ( AudioFile Magazine)

Outstanding..... Ready for verge Next Book

I absolutely loved this book. My favorite genres are historical romance and paranormal Romance I get the best of both worlds.

So this means that I'm ready for the next installment I want to hear Roberts story now.

Unlike the average historical romances especially those that are more in the midevil era these characters are older and so I think the story lends itself to be more in depth. There wasn't a lot of nonsense about "does he love me or not". It was more about a persons love enduring and self-sacrificing which for me is the best love story of all.

Descent story but...

Good story. Too many sex scenes. I felt like it distracted from the storyline. Ok, they are in love, I get it. One scene is more than sufficient... the rest should just be implied and move the story right along....

I throughly enjoyed it

It marked all my boxes, little mystery, little suspense, little supper natural and a bad arse female lead.

prequel #1 for Immortal Guardians

While published later, this is actually a prequel story to Duvall’s Immortal Guardians. It’s set in a.d. 1191-1197 England and features the family that Marcus served as Squire.
Alyssa and her family are gifted ones. Her grandmother was Wise Woman to Lord Dillon’s father and grandfather. Alyssa makes an agreement with her grandmother to replace her as Wise Woman in service to Lord Dillon. For seven years, Alyssa hides behind the cloak and cowl; it hides her body, but it doesn’t protect her heart. When Lord Dillon is mortally wounded, Alyssa sacrifices herself to take on his wounds to heal him. It takes the intervention of a mysterious man named Seth to save her, when he gathers Alyssa’s family together and shows them how to combine their gifts to heal her.
Potter does a good job of narration. She is the voice of the series.
4 stars = it’s great per Audible

Good book

I really liked this book and the characters. The only downfall is it did drag a bit in some chapters.

Great stand alone story, with intro to Immortal Guardians!

I didn’t realize how much I would like this book and that it was really an introduction to the Immortal Guardians. I have read all the I. G. books so I enjoyed how they appeared for the first time immensely.
