Publisher's summary

Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence.

For seven years Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side - counseling him from the shadows, healing him, and staving off the worst of his loneliness. Blessed - or cursed - with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him, leading Dillon and his people to believe she is the same wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything - even the wrath of his king - to be with her.

Great story.. I want a lord of my own

I love this story. It's a new series in the making that will lead and tie into the immortal guardian series. This story is filled with suspense, love, hope, and steamy encounters. Plenty of witty banter. I can't wait for the next book. So worth a credit. The narrator like always is fantastic. Don't wait or pass it up. Download it !!!

Very good read

As always Ms Duvall has delivered a very good story with lovable strong characters. The introduction of Seth and Roland was a welcomed surprise. I look forward to more from this writer.

Can't Get Enough

This is one of my favorite books. I could listen to it on repeat. Alissa is such a tragic but relatable character. Dylan is a strong and sexy lead male. Their romance is so sweet. The secondary characters are all really great as well - likable and fun. The narration is great, strong voices for all and a good tone. I have owned this book for a while. Whenever I am between credits and want something good to listen to, this is my go to. Take a chance, you won't regret it.

A really pleasant listen!

I really enjoyed this prequel to DD's Gifted One's series. Had i not already listened or read all of the subsequent books in which Seth and Roland grouped their rag tag team of fighters, this book would have had me searching for the series. If you are new to DD's books, i envey your discovery. Happy reading!

OMG amazing

I love love ..love. ! I will definitely have to listen to this book again not going to lie but I choked up a few times. I enjoy this book I enjoyed that it had Seth, Marcus and Roland. it has a small part but it starts from the beginning. this book's basically the beginning of the Guardians series. it is a stand-alone book no Cliffhangers.

A story that's good for the heart

The narration of this wonderful story was well performed. The main characters are so endearing. I would like to say much more but I will simply say I Liked This Book.

Interesting story concept. Good writing. Nice change of pace.

The idea that a young girl of “gifted” family replacing her weakening elderly grandmother as the healer/advisor to a young lord of medieval times struck me as interesting.
The writing was well done. Towards the end, I became a little tired of the usual medieval language employed, the plot after about 2/3 was foreseeable. Though the resolution of the big problem was a bit forced.
But I really enjoyed this book, which the author describes as the origin story of a future series she wrote. The characters were believable and well-delineated. I’m tired of searching for stories that are fantastical but not too weird. I like a good romance, warmer than YA but not the current stuff being churned out. Lately, so many books have become little more than verbal porn, and worse getting kinkier and kinkier. Bleh. Why is it now wrong to not want to read twisted crap?
This book reminds me of something interesting to read on a cozy afternoon, sort of like trusting that a Hallmark TV production isn’t going to go all grisly or rated M.
The narration was pretty good.

LOVED THIS!!

New author and narrator for me. Not my usual subgenre 🤷‍♀️ INSTANT FAN! Medieval alpha boss/servant taboo romance, except he's a Lord and she's his House healer. Oh my heart! 🥰🥵 Loved everything about this; the story, characters, conflict, superstition, and the relationships ❤️❤️❤️
Kristen is fantastic in her narrations!
