Penny Nichols has the London apartment, the classic cat, the villa in France, the fabulous bank account, and the great guy to share them all with. So everything's perfect, right? Er, well...Pennies, nickels....
Pursued by gigolos, gold diggers, an ex-wife, and highly aggressive salesmen, all chasing after their millions, freelancer-turned-heiress Penny Nichols and her boyfriend, Jeremy, decide to take a whole summer off and sock away most of their inheritance. But they allow themselves one big splurge from their wish list - and that's where all the trouble begins....and a boatload of secrets.
At an auction on the French Riviera, Penny and Jeremy win much more than they bargain for, as they uncover a centuries-old rivalry involving the theft of a strange, priceless treasure linked to Beethoven's Germany. Investigating everything from a 1920s yacht on the Mediterranean, to the legendary superstitionsof the island of Corsica, right up to a castle on Lake Como, Italy, Penny and Jeremy track down a mysterious elderly count whose fractured memory may hold the key piece of this fascinating historical puzzle.

This book was like watching a so-so episode of your favourite TV series. You’ll keep watching and you’ll tune in again next week for more despite a less than great instalment.
I liked the overall scenario, I liked the characters, I liked the writing, I especially liked the setting in the French Riviera… but I did not like the mystery of the lion; it bored me.
Frankly, I could have skipped that plotline completely and I just enjoy reading about how Penny and Jeremy plan to build their lives together – getting married and setting up their future etc. Of course in the long run that would not be very interesting, but since they are still new to me and I feel like I am getting to know them, I would not have minded a book of “just filler”.
The narration is stellar! I would give it 10 stars if I could.
Hi all. I'm in my 50's (that's relevant, i think), and I favor fiction. I like the british sensibility, and was introduced to the Forsyte Saga through audible ... loved it! I happen to also like Chinese writers, but they are not well represented yet at audible. Looking to follow readers with similar tastes ...
C.A. Belmond's books are a bit of fun to add to a routine day. Personally, I preferred the first and third books in this series, but best to read no. 2 before proceeding on to no. 3. Why not give it a try?
This book was an ok "read" but not as satisfying as the first book in the series. A couple of danger elements weren't well explained. I'll probably listen to the rest of the series though, since Katherine Kellgren is the narrator.
I enjoyed the first book but I didn't think the second one would be as good because there is no murder. However, it has an entertaining and funny plot and likable characters. I will probably read the next book just because I like the characters and the shenanigans they get into.
I not only love being lost in this world of European travel but the life these people live. How fun it would be to live like Penny Nichols. And the narrator is wonderful with her voices her manner and the tone. She makes it wonderful to listen to.
I follow this narrator and have found great writers because of her. This series has turned out to be very entertaining.
I'v now listened to this one and the frist two times in the last month, and about the last one for a second time too. Mystery, love and amazing city's in Europe. Love the narrator's range and ability to keep u wanting to listen
Loved listening to these great little distractions! Well- written and loads of fun. I hate getting to the end. Kellgren does all the accents very well.
I loved it. I can't wait to hear the next book. I was captivated from the beginning until the end. The scenery was described so well that I could see myself looking at it.
