Publisher's summary

Stephanie Laurens authors USA Today best-selling historical romance novels, such as Devil's Bride. Exciting and deeply sensuous, A Rake's Vow continues the Bar Cynster series.

Unlike his brothers, Vane Cynster vows to never marry. The eligible women of London have different plans for him, however. Seeking safety at Bellamy Hall, the residence of his eccentric godmother, Vane doesn't expect to meet any new unmarried women. But upon his arrival, he encounters the voluptuous Patience Debbington in the garden.

When their gazes meet for the first time, she is filled with a sensation that leaves her quivering. Thoroughly overwhelmed, Vane realizes that he has never met a woman quite like Patience Debbington. As Vane's seductions prove more and more irresistible, Patience's oath to never open herself to heartache may soon be broken.

Simon Prebble narrates this tale with the intuitive boldness and sensitivity of a true master.

Savor another Cynster novel.

Critic reviews

"Stephanie Laurens brings a thorough command of Regency style, as well as graphic, uninhibited love scenes....Laurens is especially skillful at capturing Regency males, aristocrats whose refined restraint barely masks their powerful underlying urges." (Amazon.com review)

Narrator is excellent! Story is…

Narrator is excellent! Story is good but would be so much better if there weren’t so many sex scenes. Ugh! A lot of fast forwarding! Even though I would like to hear how the rest of the Cynster’s end up I am done with the sex! This one was the worst yet!

Very good story I’m not Asian, but it was too long

The narrator was amazing and story was good, but it just kept going on and on. I couldn’t believe when It Ali finished and I skipped several chapters.

typical Laurens fair

A hot story of the Bar Cynster. Should be listened to after the 1)Promise in a Kiss 2)Devil's Bride, and the Secret Love. Simon Prebble gives a strong performance.

Entertaining

Kept my interest start to finish. Narrator was very good and story remained interesting and original throughout. Several steamy scenes that added a lot to the book in regards to the main characters and their relationship. They were tastefully written and performed. Looking forward to next in series.

Engaging

Great story for the second of the Bar Cynster who is to marry. Engaging storyline and characters with mystery and humor throughout. Simon Prebble was perfect and brought the story to life. I enjoy a "hot" romance and was not disappointed.

Audiobook: Narrator - Simon Prebble

My second listen to this narrator, in the same series, and another enjoyable listen. Voices are still distinctive, emotions are clearly heard and felt. A great narration!

Wow! Talk about steamy! This one had me wide eyed as Vane and Patience share some particularly racy moments. And then the unthinkable happened, I fast forwarded through some of the racy. Gasp! I know, unheard of, but it seemed this story had more of the physical than Devil’s Bride. Then again, I was listening to this while preparing for the holiday and it’s possible I was clueing in to the finer details during that time.

Vane, much like Devil, is all about claiming Patience once he determines she is his. However, he wasn’t completely on board with a relationship initially. I loved how once he decided to make her his wife he was relentless.

The mystery was not near as dangerous as Devil and Honoria’s and I have to admit, there were so many secondary characters involved that I had a hard time following them due to listening instead of reading. It’s a me problem.

Overall, I enjoyed this one just perhaps not as much as the first book.
