As betrayal and intrigue swirl around her, Lady Penelope finds herself inexorably drawn into the strong arms of the man she cannot resist.

Lovely, well written emotional mystery/drama with sensual detail without being pornography. The regency period written the right way. The narrator is excellent. Vocal characterizations with distinctive expertize.
This novel was just that novel and suprising. It kept you listening through the whole story not able to anticipate the changes in teh plot (which I generally do with ease). I loved it.
Ms. Laurens just needed to get on with the story between Penelope and Charles. There was way too much of self thought and introspection. It drug on and on and on. Of course Jill Tanner isn't the best narrator either and perhaps this book would have been better had a different narrator read the story. I can't really recommend this book. I just thought it would never end.
I love Stephanie Laurens and her Bastion Club novels but this one just dragged on i thought. did not hold my interest at times i just turned it off and came back to it later. no real "romance" and to me the plot was so-so. just not my cup of tea on this one
All Bastion Club novels were written using the same template... Once you listened to one of them, you listened to all. Too much sex, for my taste. All the men are tall, dark and handsome; all the heroines are so not into marriage... Yes, I do listen to romance novels to escape, but these are so unbelievable and unconvincing... Jill Tanner is a wonderful narrator and I love her voice, but even she cannot save this pseudo-literature.
besides a drawn out plot - Jill Tanner is no Simon Prebble!!! she stinks at this at best! her prose like narration would suit Shakespeare read to dead people - stay away!!!!! the only reason I continued listening was I am a huge Cynster fan - this is not even close! had Simon Prebble read, I probably would not have had to rewind so many times - the mono tone was so bad I think I listened to this at least 3 times to get to the end! could have been good but 2 things - drawn out - lost its zing, and although well written, as she is a gifted author, Tanner was like putting a ball on chain on a fish and asking it ti swim!
what a shame - I was excited to start a new series but if Tanner is reading - I am not!
