Once upon a time...
...as a fair maiden lay weeping upon a cold tombstone, her heartfelt desire was suddenly made real before her: Tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, her knight in shining armor had come to rescue his damsel in distress....

"A glorious love story that spans centuries, worlds, and souls.... A Knight in Shining Armor will capture your heart - and hold it. (Chicago Daily Herald)
"Rare and simply delightful...poignant, sensual.... This unique story will capture your heart, make you laugh, cry, and wish this could come true." (Romantic Times)
"A well-plotted book with a very attractive hero and a lot of charm." (The Washington Post)
I have waited for YEARS for an unabridged version of this book to be produced and had begun to give up hope. With all the mediocre books being recorded at a dizzying rate these days it seems many great earlier works by authors are not prioritized. Thank the romance gods that this classic has been given its due. The narration is magnificent and the story still breathtakingly beautiful. If you have read the story I can assure you that it is even more wonderful in audio, if not, please DO NOT MISS one of the best romance novels ever written!
This story touched my heart! Twists, turns, love, romance, and THE perfect ending. Need I say more?
A better narator
the Outlander Series because they both deal with time travel and love stories
not in the form of a romance novel.
I wouldn't cut a single character but I would cut the narator.
I have read the actual hardcover book when it first came out and absolutely loved it! Finished it in 4 hours and have read it at least 4 times. Steve West made Douglas sound as whinny as Gloria. Total turn off. Let him stick to stories that do not involve female characters as he does not do them justice. This presentation made me pick up the book and read it for myself again I could not get through this story with the narator at all.
This is a surprisingly good book. While it is technically a Romance, it is also a time travel fantasy. The story line is much richer and more interesting than I expected with a surprising ending. The characters are richly drawn, the narrator is good and I found myself listening to it more than once, a good sign in my case. I encourage you to give it a try.
didn't read the print version
I enjoyed this love story and cried so hard at the end. what a terrific story of lasting love.
you will be so glad you listened to this book
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
This is one of those books that I loved and hated all at the same time - my dilemma is based purely on the heroine's personality she was soooooo incredibly stupid, boring and weak and certainly didn't deserve her handsome Knight in shining armour.
But at the same time it was romantic, funny, touching and sad and it will have you guessing how it will end - which was a real surprise .... I kept thinking "any minute now" but I just didn't see that one comming.
Worth a credit? It seemed more YA but thoroughly enjoyable for us romantics - so it's a YES from me.
I fell I love with this book years ago when it first came out and 25 other people read it after me loving it just as much as I did. Today I love it even more. The way Steve West narrated made it come even more alive that reading it myself. Thank you.
JD's very best!
No, but I enjoyed him immensley and will not hesitate to listen to his other works. Good job Steve!
I had a lot of emotions reading this book. It is one of the things I love about JD and Steve West is a fine actor.
I read and loved this book in hard cover and was excited to find an unabridged audio version!
I purchased the abridged version two years ago and was extremely disappointed in both the narrator and the amount of editing that was done to shorten the story.
When I read the reviews about the narrator in this version I was a bit concerned but, I have to say, I enjoyed the performance of Steve West much more than I did that of Stephanie Zimbalist in the abridged version.
This is the Knight in Shining Armor I read and fell in love with back in 1989!
Haven't read the print version, but would like to.
Except for her name, Douglas, I enjoyed the main female character. The author portrayed her as any woman would act having a knight from 400 years ago appear before her.
Would have liked to have heard the women's voices portrayed differently. Mr. West performed the male characters very well.
Love that spans the ages!
Prepare for an emotional ride, the extremes of love, heart ache, happiness and despair.
I wish the story would have continued a bit beyond the end. It's like dropping one's child off on his/her first day of school. You know they will be ok, but you're not there to see it and feel it.
"Not her Best."
My first impression after 50mins into this book is that Douglas is either very very stupid or likes being a doormat, cause apparently she not only lets her family mock her and walk all over her but also the man she deems perfect marriage material. She has medieval coins in her hand and can’t tell the difference between medieval coins and normal everyday coins. She’s supposed to be a school teacher!! How can you not tell? The first this about being a teacher is that you’re curious about everything! She just gives the coins for train fair without even giving them a second glance. I mean seriously, you’re in a new country wouldn’t you look at your coins carefully to see that you have exact fare. Even though you’re a teacher in the US you do learn about English currency and wouldn’t any teacher look at the coins to see if they are the same as the ones in the pictures from the time she taught. She is seriously being airheaded. I despise the author for creating such a character. A disgrace to the female kind. I love JD's other titles but this short of turning my stomach.
