Publisher's summary

Miss Kate Daltry doesn't believe in fairy tales...or happily ever after.

Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince...and decides he's anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.

Gabriel likes his fiancee, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn't love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.

Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.

Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble....

Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune....

Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything.

Drawn out no true connection

I would have loved to see this as a film. It would have been a fun and colorful chaotic romp but I gave up reading/listening at Chapter 20. Not enough focused on the two main characters relationship and spark developing.

Naughty Cinderella

This is a retelling of a classic story. It does go off on a different direction than anticipated. Enjoyable to listen to.

one of my favorite books read by my favorite

I adore this book. couldn't tell you why exactly, but I adore Eloisa James and this is my favorite of her novels. I especially love all of the colorful supporting characters and how playful it is.

Susan D. has an extremely soothing voice. I listen to books just because she narrates.

HOT Cinderella

What did you like best about this story?

This book was an absolute joy to listen to! James does a great job creating a fresh take on one of the world's most popular fairy tales. However, be forewarned, like many of James' other books that it is definitely an "adult" read. Although calling it erotica would be too strong it is a very "hot" version of Cinderella. Lots of tension and build up that leads to a great ending. MUST read for any fantasy or romance reader. Very well done!

Great Take on Cinderella!!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Kiss at Midnight to be better than the print version?

Yes, the sense of being read a fairy tale is a wonderful feeling. The book is so descriptive that you can see the characters and the environment in your mind.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the twist on Cinderella. The ending is more romantic then the original Cinderella story.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scenes are with the Stepmother and Kate's discovery of the true story behind her father's marriages. I loved scenes with the Godmother, Henry.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Fairy Tales have grown up.

Excellent Listen

What really impressed me about this book was the narration. This is the first time I've heard a female narrator get the male voice right. The main character, the Prince in this novel sounds truly sexy and believable. Men talk in shorter sentences with a difference cadance, I believe. This narrator did more than just lower her voice. The story is also entertaining and takes a different approach to the Cinderella story.
