Publisher's summary

Roderick was born an immortal prince in the realm of Thales. Revered and respected, he lived a life of grandeur, but his one true love was fighting. He was given a special gift in his battle abilities and soon became known as Thales' finest warrior. But all that changed the day his brother died and an evil descended upon his realm. With Thales on the verge of ruin, he bound himself to the Shields to protect the realms from the evil that ravages them.

But he has a dark secret for which he must atone. Then and only then can he return to Thales and face his family. His special battle skills and his immortality help Roderick to keep his goals in front of him. They have always been clear....until Elle.

Elle makes Roderick long for things he cannot have. Her innate goodness makes him want to grasp what she offers with both hands, but he knows that they can never have what she seeks. Elle bears a mark that signals her as one of a chosen few who were sent to Earth as infants. She and the others who bear the mark must be found and kept hidden from the ancient evil that seeks them, for they hold the key to the evil's ruination. The only way to keep Elle safe is to keep her by his side, but can Roderick resist the temptation to take her love?

D..LISH..OUS AND OH YES - IT WAS DEFINITELY MAGIC

Phew, where to start, a group of hot immortals called The Shields who battle, on behalf of the Fae, an unknown enemy who keeps throwing different paranormal entities at them in the hope of destroying Earth as it has done with other realms.

There's a strong, thrilling, flowing storyline that includes time-travel, supernaturals, magic, interesting likeable and loveable characters who, despite challenges, remain loyal, thoughtful, tender and totally drool-worthy heroes. This challenge (I'm not going to give anything away) seemed simple for Roderick as he finds Elle straight away but fate stepped in and threw a curve ball which resulted in 3 evil Harpies being summoned, terror, a battle of good v evil, someone's untimely death and a time-travelling rivetting fight to the death.

The romance has instant attraction, denial (why do they bother) a building trust and sexual awareness that eventually leads to passion, lust, hot sex .... and love.

Worth a credit? It's another big YES written and billowing across a clear blue sky.

I adore this book! The storyline is exciting with action, unexpected twists and steamy romance. The characters are enchanting. The narration by Anthony Ferguson is perfection as usual. I love Donna Grant! I very, very highly recommend this book.

Amazing, it has everything

This series, and particularly this narrator bring to life a fight between mythical beings, evil foes, good, sweet, and likable characters throughout millennia. You don't know if your in a melting Texas towns battling, or in 1128-I think it was that pop-up England with real knights as your back up. I'm on my second of the series, I really loved this book. I'm excited to listen to the next. Awesome, and narrator has such a range I'm impressed.

Ho Hum…

Although the writing wasn't much different than from the first book, I just couldn't get into this story. I liked the characters fine, even if I think the heroine in both books are too nice and it has a plot that I would normally like, I just wasn't crazy about this book. While good the story lacked something for me, enough that I probably won't be continuing on with the next book. I have so many books to read that if I feel ho hum about a story it is the end for me. In both books the bad guy was obvious from the start and I didn't like what happened to her best friend. This is the first series I have read by Donna Grand and she seems to have a lot of fans, I may be willing try another series by her later. Narrator is okay, his southern accent need work, but again he might have contributed to my lack luster feelings about the book as a whole.

This story was begging for dual narrators

The writing and story were good but the narration left a lot to be desired. The main female character was from Texas but the narrator was British. He both could not do a good southern accent and regularly forgot to even try. So when he did remember to give it a go, it was both bad and jarring. If you tend to be distracted by bad narration I would suggest reading this one yourself.

Second book in a series

I liked this second book better. It answered more questions but there is still a lot to be revealed in the future books. However I am not sure I will continue. I really like the characters and I'm sure it will follow the shields so all the early characters will still be around. The narrator just doesn't do it for me. He has a great voice, wonderful diction, and reads all the scenes exactly the same whether it is eating dinner or a passionate love scene , or a raging battle. He just has this even monotone way of reading that doesn't suit this type of book. He would be great for spy novels or books which just tell the story. However this series has great passion and action and he does not convey that well in my opinion.

Marvelous!

I really enjoyed this book. In this episode of the Sheilds Series Roderick meets Elle in modern day Texas. He quickly falls for her while fighting off harpies. He takes her back in time to Hugh & Mina so he can better protect her. Elle turns out to be pretty kick ass herself. Elle & Mina each get a Fae weapon & play a big part in vanquishing the evil.
This book is for adults only. The narration is excellent. Worth the credit or cash!
