Publisher's summary

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her....

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy....

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents - until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae - and their notorious dark desires - ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire....

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

Start with #4 before you read this one

The reader and author got so much better at book #4. Maybe #2,3 are good, but I know #4 is great. The reader did not get his stride on this starter book. #4,5,6 have so much humor.
If you have not read books, and want to be a K.C. fan then I would not start with this one as it seems a bit dark, slow, and no way as much fun as the later books. I think K.C. felt humor would set her apart from other authors and it has.

ugh! what can I say

it was pretty good. it would be GREAT fantastic even! had it not come across as super annoying at times. I mean MAN how much CAN you protest? how far can you take it without delivering an orgasm? JESUS! that grated my nerves for sure. its like we're on chapter 20!! and they've barely done anything! in fact it was getting WORSE!! uggh I'm afraid to try the next book I really don't want it to be the same formula BUT I seem to be having trouble finding a happy medium... something like the early BDB. I wish I hadn't started with those because I had no idea they would be what I compared everything else to lol.

My Favorite Immortal After Dark Book

Would you listen to A Hunger Like No Other: Immortals After Dark, Book 2 again? Why?

Of course! This is very enjoyable to read as well as listen to. Though I must warn you, while all of the Immortal After Dark has unique story and characters, it follows the same bone format.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lachlain - Love the beginning of this book when he was trapped and scented her. It's my favorite part!
Emma - Cute and sassy.
Nyx - Who doesn't love nyx? Your friendly insane neighborhood Valkyrie? Nyx is probably one of my most loved character in the series.

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

The narrator did a great job on narrating the story as well as male voices. For the females part however...I know it's unfair to judge a man voicing a female, but uh... I'm sorry, the female voices makes me laugh and really takes me out of the book. That being said, I can't fault the narrator for that, so 5 star for him.

Any additional comments?

Warning: spoilers Ahead! I'm quite conflicted about reviewing this book because... while I did ENJOYED reading/listening to it, there were part in the books I couldn't condone. The reason that I'm giving this story a five is because I'm judging it in standard of a book and it really was enjoyable. Let me tell you what's enjoyable about it: The characters. Kresley Cole has amazing talent for creating interesting and beloved characters for this Series as well as their background story. The most fascinating thing about this series is THE LORE and MATEHOOD in the lore, especially the Lykae's.

While each book in this series is about a different couple, they all live in the same world, and are at different place and time, doing different things, while the same event is happening around them. Each book gives you more insights and happenings in this world and it's very colorful! Emma and Lachlain's story triggered a lot of other events in the later stories of the series. (I love Nyx because she's the all-knowing Valkyrie, a little insane because she's burden by her vision of knowing everything in different timelines. She's funny, but a rather tragic character.)

Back to this particular book in the series.I love the beginning of this book when Lachlain scented his female and how he sacrificed to get to her. I love the character Lachlain, his torment, his background, his desire for his mate. However... (oh no) ... Kresley Cole has a strange idea of romance when it comes to coercion. You won't notice it much from reading one book, but I read all of her book (except for Shadow Claim) and I can say with a degree of certainty that the females of the story doesn't act like they should after ... (example) female try to run away, male caught her, try to have intercourse with her, she said no, he take off his pants, female is taken over my lust, afterward female thinks it's amazing sex and then sort things out with the male. O.o;;;;; I have nothing against Stockholm syndrome book, it's just that particular scenario hasn't sit right with me. I can't really process that because that's not logical to me, but then again, I never had a sexy lykae coming after me so I wouldn't know. It is an excellent book overall, but there are details in the book that could've been handled a little differently and be 10x better.
