Publisher's Summary

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her....

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy....

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents - until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae - and their notorious dark desires - ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire....

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

    "Super story and narrator!"

I had already read this book, so the story wasn't a surprise. I've enjoyed all the books of this series. But I was delighted by the narrator, especially when he did Lachlan's voice. FYI, there is some explicit sex in this story in case that influences your choice of books, one way or the other. And it's definitely one of those rocky romances often based on misconceptions about each other. I got a bit tired of the heroine and felt like she wasn't fair to our hero for far too long. But I still liked the story a lot and would get the second book right now, IF AUDIBLE HAD IT!

"Wasn't sure at first, then it sucked me in!"
What made the experience of listening to A Hunger Like No Other the most enjoyable?

Robert is the first male narrator I have listened to, and I have to say, he is amazing. He made this whole story come to life with his amazing accents. The women in the story was a little harder to deal with, but I can imagine it's harder for a man to do a woman's voice. It wasn't enough to make me stop listening that is for sure.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I honestly didn't have a favorite character, I really liked them all quite equally.

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

EVERYTHING for the most part. Just an amazing narrator, he makes this book extremely sexy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did, the beginning. Lachlain was so forceful with Emma, it was almost a little rapey... but once he started to realize how he had been treating her, and came to his senses after being imprisoned for so long, you begin to understand it all and it all comes together. I did not laugh or cry, but this was the sexiest book I have ever listened to. Most of my book have a fair amount of sex of course, but omg Kresley is REALLY graphic, and I love it...

    Any additional comments?

I am hoping that the rest in this series does not disappoint as well! I am listening to Shadow's Claim right now, and it is amazing. I tend to like vampires more than any other, so I thought I may love this book.

    "Outstanding! A Must Read. Wow!"

Wow!! My first Kresley Cole book! I started it at 9pm and it's 6am now. I can't stop listening it's so darn good. Great narrator. Great story and deep sensuality. Not smutty. But might cause a squirm or two or three. In a good way!! :) The story is riveting with surprises and danger. (Great side plot about the truth of elinore's background.)

I like the two main characters so much, I want more from them!! Hope the series has another book about them. But I'll definitely read the rest regardless.

The story sets up such a creative interesting world to explore in further books. Oh, and the male lead in his book is HOT. (although Jerihco Barrons [Karen Moning's Fever series] and Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress are still my very favorite).

This is one of my favorite books in the fantasy/ romance genre. And I'll watch the sunset listening till I finish. And probably start another from the author.

    LOVE IT!!

"Wow Robert Petkoff is impeccable... Impetkable!"
    Any additional comments?

Wowsers... Robert Petkoff narrates brilliantly! His characterisations are distinct and personal, his accents are excellent (no Scottish turning Indian here(or is that just mine:-)) and his inflection, especially during intense moments is extremely captivating, engaging and... Well.... HOT!
I feel like I'm listening to a secret intimate recording (at (those HOT) times) or a play rather than a reading. Superb.
As for the story, it was quite good although a little long and drawn out for my taste (and ADHD) I liked the intensity of the building relationship between Emma and Lachlan and the good amount of action and intrigue within the not so usual vampire/werewolf/valkyrie back story. Looking forward to reading more.

    "I feel like a teenager!"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is the first vampire/warewolf novel I've ever read so I really didn't know what to expect. It starts off fast and then fills you in on some of the character's history later on. This kind of confused me. Also, the lingo was a bit juvenile. I felt it took away from the quality of writing. Other parts of the book were so well written so I know the author is capable, I just wish it would have been consistent throughout.

What was most disappointing about Kresley Cole’s story?

I wouldn't say this story was disappointing, I'm simply used to a different style of writing from what I'm used to.

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Robert was a pleasant surprise. He's a pretty great narrator. I'd say he played every part very well.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I think if the author had turned it up a notch and refrained from teenage speak this novel could have been great. However it seems she has an amazing following and tons of fans so maybe she doesn't need to change a thing :)

    Any additional comments?

Overall this novel was exciting and entertaining. Even thought there were a few parts that had be rolling my eyes and I likely won't buy the next book in the series I can't say I didn't enjoy myself. It certainly wasn't a waste of money. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet escape and a few laughs.

    "Good but not Great"

I have read most of this series and really enjoyed it. When I saw the audio books released, I thought that I would enjoy listening to the series as well. The fact that I have read and now am listening to the series, should tell you enough about where i stand on my recommendation. But I do want to note that I think this book and the series are slightly different from most paranormal romance books. There is a certain whimsical nature to some of the characters and plot lines, a la the Kerrelyn Sparks' books. It does have darker moments, but it is also fun...perfect summer listen for vacation.

    "WOW!! What a great book!!"

Loved this book. What a great story. Wonderful characters, wonderful story line, hot and steamy sex. Not only were the main characters, Emma and Lachlain great, all the secondary characters were too. I love all the different types of "beings", Lykae, Valkyrie, Vampires and so much more. I am looking forward to the next book. I do wish there had been more dialogue in the book but the story was so good and it wasn't full of only thoughts and feelings repeated over and over as some authors write when there is not much dialogue. So, A+ for a story well written.

    Narration:
I have almost started this series so many times and didn't because my preference of narrator is female, but I have to say Robert Petkoff did a fantastic job, and I don't think this book would have been as good narrated by a female, unless is it was Tavia Gilbert, she can narrate anything and its wonderful in my opinion. (although I do think Jim Frangione did a great job on the wonderful Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which is also the only other male narrator I have listened too)

    Credit worthy? 100% YES!!

I totally recommend to book to any PRN reader/listener

    "Ugh! Enough said."
What disappointed you about A Hunger Like No Other?

I really, really disliked the hero, and couldn't muster any admiration for the heroine. Her aunts were strident and I found them unlovable, and while a few secondary characters struck me as worth getting to know in future books, I don't think I could bring myself to care enough to buy another one of these novels.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kresley Cole again?

Nope. The writing wasn't all that bad--I've seen worse--but the plot was uninteresting overall, with a lot of big dramatic moments where the hero and heroine fought and no real story progression. I found myself alternately bored by the hystrionics of various characters and irritated by the unmitigated overbearing Chauvinism of the male protagonist. Ugh.

How could the performance have been better?

To have a better performance you would need a better novel. Spend your credits elsewhere. If you like paranormals with good plotlines and characters you might actually like to meet in real life, try JR Ward, Nalini Singh, Lara Adrien or Larissa Ione.

    "Loved this story!"

I must say this is one of the best narrators I have heard. He does dialects extremely well. I also agree with another listener who pointed out that the woman, the main character, is very realistic. I also get tired of the whiney, tougher than nails, kick ass female that seems to pop up in a lot of books. No wonder most of these women can't keep their mates. This female, Emiline grows into her strength, little by little. If you like romance and werewolves, get this book. It's amazing. I loved it. Thank you audible listeners for recommending this one.

I have read all the paperbacks and now I am reliving them again on Audio; what a pleasure! Robert Petkoff is wonderful. He enhances the book to a higher level and I have found a greater joy in listening to the wonderful, witty and exciting content. Kresley Cole is so clever as she can make you choke up one moment and laugh out loud the next.
Wonderful start to a series that I am collecting one by one, in order is a must, for me at least!
