Life changes in the span of a heartbeat - one tiny heartbeat.
Blake and Layla have lived through disappointment and regret, only finally finding relief through the powerful love they have for each other - a love they intend to fight to keep.
They've had to forgive each other, but can they truly move forward without facing the pain of the past?
Layla's been avoiding the phone calls. Nine months pregnant and exhausted, she doesn't want the complication. But she can't run from the truth. Whoever's calling was there 18 years ago. Unlike her, he remembers the night that changed the course of her life, and he's ready to confess.
Blake's preoccupied with an email, a few simple sentences sent through cyberspace that have the capability to rob him of his sanity, his freedom, and the people he loves most in the world. When he's called home for a mysterious reason, leaving Layla isn't ideal, but hope for reconciliation with his father combined with his brother's secrecy ignites a curiosity he refuses to ignore.
Putting the pain behind them is no longer an option.
To get the answers they need, they must face the past and open up old wounds that threaten to bleed them dry.

This novella could not have been better in my opinion. Blake and Layla are one of my favorite couples from this series, and this short story was equally as engaging as the preceding books. The title was quite fitting, both figuratively and literally. There's drama, humor, and of course, crazy smoking hot sex! Blake's brother Bray makes another appearance, and 'Killer' Killian seems to be ever present as well. They both added an extra 'something' to the overall story, and honestly I wouldn't mind a spinoff story about both characters in the future. I enjoyed this one immensely.
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
If anyone can make me use a credit for a listen that's under 6 hours then it's JB Salsbury because I have no doubt whatsoever that I'm going to love it..... and yup, I was right. Although Layla and Blake's love story has already been told in book 2 of this series, about Alpha MMA Fighters, they all hook you in so much that you relish each listen because you want to know more about these characters that you've rooted for and cared about so you soak up any news as to how they're all doing after the happy ever afters..... well this is one such story and it didn't disappoint.
Layla and Blake have been hiding some disturbing news from one another in order to protect the other person but Layla's concern for her Fiancé uncovers what has kept Blake awake for the last few nights. That news, coupled with her incoming anonymous and repetitive phone calls, that have gone unanswered, makes her take a deep breath ready to answer the next one and, as they're coming in constantly, she doesn't have to wait long. Someone's been digging into her and her daughter's lives and the male voice from the past on the other end of the phone conjures up visions of that fateful blurred College night when her virginity was robbed from her and she was left pregnant. Layla freaks out at the voice and tries for denial..... but he's very very persistent.
Blake has other worries too, his Brother's in town begging him to go see his parents and, even though he's had an awful upbringing, he reluctantly leaves the 'expected to deliver anytime now' Layla to hear what? he just doesn't really want to know because it's bound to be bullshit.... how wrong he is. It's a gut-wrenching shock quickly followed by anger, panic and fear. And while the cat's away his Mouse does play.... which leads to a long overdue confrontation and several revelations.... all unexpected.
Wow JBS really packed a lot of emotional baggage, drama and intrigue into this listen that had Father's asking for forgiveness and Fathers going to any lengths to protect the ones they love. There's also a lot of love too as Blake and Layla's relationship is as solid as ever and their sex drives are in the 'steamy' zone. Then the precious bundle of joy Blake's carefully holding suddenly puts his whole life into perspective and his anger and animosity fade to black leaving a suddenly brighter HEA.
Worth a credit? Dual POV's, great narration, excellent short story, glimpses of well loved characters and a message about forgivenesses and 'the other man's shoes'. This isn't a stand alone listen but a follow-on story from the whole series (but especially from book 2). Thank you JBP..... short, sweet and very creditworthy.
hate to say I'm hopeless romantic. I'm also realistic, funny, straight forward. Enjoy a good gripping audible book to take me away.
It ranks high. I enjoy the story and the way someone changes when the things in life happens. It was great.
Blake he was one type of man, and by the end of the listen he realized what was important to him and his life. Real feel good story
no problem the narrator's brought the story to life.
check all the series it's really worth listening to
I am an avid reader, not a professional book reviewer. I gladly offer my opinion of the books I read/listen to.
This is the a follow up installment with Blake and "Mouse" as they lead their blissful married life and are expecting their first child together. Of course her past once again comes back to haunt her tranquil existence. Blake is called home to deal with some issues from his past home life ..... and the story unfolds. Definitely worth the credit I used and cannot wait for the next book!! I recommend reading the books in order although they are stand alone!
I actually laughed out loud during parts of this book. What a great heartwarming story. Short… but definitely a good one!
