Publisher's summary

A duke must choose wisely....

Leopold Dautry, the notorious Duke of Villiers, must wed quickly and nobly - and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, Eleanor, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. Villiers betroths himself to her without further ado.

After all, no other woman really qualifies. Lisette, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title. Half the ton believes Lisette mad - and Villiers is inclined to agree.

Torn between logic and passion, between intelligence and imagination, Villiers finds himself drawn to the very edge of impropriety. But it is not until he's in a duel to the death, fighting for the reputation of the woman he loves, that Villiers finally realizes that the greatest risk may not be in the dueling field....

But in the bedroom. And the heart.

Excellent Dialogue

This book was very good because of the banter and flirtation between Leopold and the ladies

Delicious!!

This book was deliciously naughty!!!!!! I was spellbound and couldn't put it down. I listened while working around the house and cooking. It just made my morning and afternoon go by with a smile on my face. They were some scenes where I was bursting out laughing, some talking to myself and some where I wanted to just hit someone. The characters were so life like...........you could relate. Eloisa did a great job and Susan brought the characters home. I look forward to reading another of her books!

Oh Leopold....

I just can't even... I loved this story so much, I can't explain. I'll try. It left me with that romance afterglow, the one that makes you believe in true love until the next time you turn on the nightly news. Butterflies all night until the next day when I ventured out into the real world. I'm a cynical person obviously, this took me one day to get through and my cold chilly heat melted into disgusting snappiness. Bravo Ms. James for giving Villers his perfect ending.

My favorite in the series.

Any additional comments?

The narrator is great! This Duke really grew on me as I read the books (I won't even try to spell it). I liked the female lead as well. Lisette was so annoying! (as she should be)
Don't start with this one. You need to hate this Duke for a while to appreciate his good side. Start with An affair before Christmas.

Realizations

The realizations that the heroine came to concerning past mistakes by herself, the Duke, and the changes in character made by the Duke were compassionately insightful. Her own epiphany, which she vehemently declared to both the men who claimed to ‘love’ her was an impressive statement of authentic self-knowledge and what she wanted and expected for herself. She had become a strong emotionally insightful women. One of the best I’ve heard depicted in Romance Literature Bravo

An all time favorite of mine.

Where does A Duke of Her Own rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top notch.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the hero from prior books, the vulnerability, the children and the heroine's courage and humor, and love for her pet and her family. I really love the subtlety in the author's stories, and that the plot moves along without redundant misunderstanding and obstacles.

What does Susan Duerden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Brings it alive. Gives each character a different voice. Didn't want it to end. I have read this book in print at least twice before but this really makes the characters come to life.

Any additional comments?

Susan Duerden matched with my favorite romance author is a winner. I wish the author's newer books were as good as her earlier ones. She had only one misfire in the very beginning of her Duchess series. She got better and this one was perfect.

Delightful Story!

I did not realize when I read this book that there were 5 stories preceeding it. Having said that, as a stand alone story, it was totally engrossing and superbly narrated. I really enjoy historical romances, and this one did not disappoint. I love the Duke of Villier's character - a rake with a soft heart. I also enjoyed Susan Duerden's narration. There are some narrators that are so disjointed that you simply can't get into the story. No so with this narrator. She brought out the characters so that you were just simply pulled into the story! I have listened to many parts over and over with total enjoyment!

Witty and thoroughly engaging

Eloisa James is the best Regency author since Georgia Heyer. her plots and character development keeps the reader completely riveted. I have this book on my shelf next to Venetia, my favorite Georgette Heyer novel.
