Publisher's summary

A warrior woman, a lonely artist, and a love story that's out of this world....

Mara, a painter, lives in a quirky artist community in downtown Buffalo, and though she loves her roommates like family, she has always felt alone. But, each night, a sexy, dark-haired woman haunts her dreams, dreams that almost help her forget the betrayal and pain she's suffered in her life. She paints to block out the bad memories, and in every painting, the woman from her dreams - as if by magic - appears.

One fateful night, Mara rescues a drowning person from the Buffalo River: a beautiful woman with a serious wound who claims to be a knight from another world. The woman's name is Charaxus, and - despite her outlandish story - she inspires longings in Mara that she has never felt before. As her attraction to Charaxus grows, Mara discovers that the mysterious, brooding knight is telling the truth - and that she is the woman Mara has been dreaming about for a lifetime. But someone dangerous and dark is hunting Charaxus, and is it Mara's fate to lose the woman of her dreams forever?

A Dark and Stormy Knight is a sexy, romantic novel about overcoming past heartaches and learning to believe in happy endings. This book is set in the same world as A Knight to Remember, Forever and a Knight, and Date Knight, but it is a stand-alone book. It is part of Bridget Essex's Knight Legends Series: women knights, real-world high-jinks, and love stories that transcend space and time.

My heart!!

This made me hurt in such a good way. Charaxus and Mara are the epitome of soul mates and they fit so well together. I loved seeing the softer side of Charaxus, and how she became the "cold" person she's known to be by others. I actually like these two a little more than Holly and Verago, and I'd love to hear more of a conclusion between these two and where their relationship takes them. Btw Maria Marquis is amazing!!!

The most heart felt story I have ever heard!

The Story, the way it is written, and the emotion in the narrative touched me as few stories have in my many years of reading. It made me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time and I am so thankful to have found this story. It will most definitely become one of my favorites.

Wow

One of the hottest love stories I have ever listened to. The writing is the best and the narration is awesome! Not being a writer I cannot adequately describe it except to say WOW! I truly love this book!

My favorite book of the knight series

The book is powerful and lovely and sad, and I especially loved the author's note at the end. Being a member of the LGBTQ community is not easy, especially for those that receive so much hate for living their authentic truth. Let's continue to work towards equality and fight the good fight! ✊🏼

Swoons all around! But magic *grumble grumble*...

Despite not being the story's target demo, I really loved the romance of it. The narrator, as stated by literally everyone else, is top notch and sells the whole story.

The first half, or "part A", was well paced and got to the business of giving you the characters and setting up the turbulent attraction between them. It even gives a calm before the storm glimpse as to how they behave with each other after their romance is established. 100 gold stars.

Part B, though, has a common theme of "Oh no she's leaving! Heartache!", that made me scream "Why don't you just go with her to Agriterra, Mara?! Earth doesn't seem to have that much to hold you here!" This might be cause magic wasn't well explained. It felt like Charaxus and Mara knew only Charaxus could go back, but the reader was in the dark about that limitation. A quick "it doesn't work that way" would've helped.

But despite that, the characters really felt alive to me and I genuinely wanted them to prevail and be together. I greatly appreciated that the story wasn't a huge "will they or won't they even get together?" like many romance stories tend to be. They were into each other from the onset and it felt right. 100% would watch the movie adaptation.

Kudos to a great narrator!

You must know right off that it's a Bridget Essex story-that automatically makes it top notch. However, I was very impressed with narrator Marina Barrett. A narrator can make or break a story no matter who the author is, but a great narrator can actually bring that story to life for you. That's what Ms Barrett does. She has distinctive voices for each character which is as it should be but seldom is. I especially loved the sensual voice she had for Charaxus-she sounded as I always believed she should. Thank you Marina Barrett for bringing this great Bridget Essex book to life for me. Frances Runyon

Wish I could give this book 100 stars!

I have never felt so emotionally connected to a book like I was with with this one! I haven't cried as much as I have with this book! Definitely my favorite of this series so far! Charaxus and Mara will have a special place in my mind and heart forever. This was such an amazing story!! So so sad that it is over but so happy that it was written!

glad I gave this one a chance

I was hesitant to start this one, since I had listened to all the others, and was feeling a little Knighted-out. But I decided I would quit if I got bored. That didn't happen, as I fell in love with the narrator. The story was good, but the narrator definitely took it up another notch for me. Very pleasantly surprised.

Xenia Warrior Princess??

It was a pretty good listens. Seems like the Arthur has/had a crush on Xenia Warrior Princess or Lucy Lawless or both. How I imagine the show would be if it was filmed now in 2019.
