Publisher's summary

When mariner Robinson Crusoe sails from London to the African coast to Brazil, his unpredictable voyage takes a catastrophic course. The lone survivor of a shipwreck, he washes ashore on an Atlantic island. Resourceful and determined to contend with providence and nature, he finds his sovereignty empowering. Through the years he builds a civilization as a solitary man. Then he discovers a stranger’s footprint in the sand.

A pioneering work of literary realism, Daniel Defoe’s epic has left an inestimable legacy. Arguably the first English novel and the archetype of the survivalist genre, Robinson Crusoe has become a symbol of self-reliance and individualism.

Revised edition: Previously published as Robinson Crusoe, this edition of Robinson Crusoe (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

Decent for its time, tedious now

Robinson Crusoe may well be one of the earliest popular "survival" stories, and I admit I enjoyed hearing the entire story. So many abbreviated versions cut it off at his departure from the island.

The reader was excellent, and his voice fit the character well.

My disappointment stems from the tedious nature of the story itself. For its time, in a world focused on direct characterization and clear and obvious content, it was quite good. Now, it reads as tedious and slow paced. I love a good, slow-building plot, but this was a bridge too far.

beautiful narration

I have a few different narraators who read this book . but this is the my favorite, it's the most enjoyable and relaxing to listen to , especially when I get frequent headaches the soothing voice helps me fall asleep easily.

I highly recommend this narrator and if u love this book , this is the best version on audible.

More Bang for Your Buck

Not a fancy production by any stretch of the imagination, but the narrator delivers the novel(s) in a way that is solid, easy on the ears, and genuine to the source material.

Not stated anywhere, but this recording goes straight into Defoe's lesser known sequel: The Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.

A pleasant surprise to be sure!

Story is great but the voice that speaks isn’t so great

I like the story very much but I don’t like the accent of the narrator as sometimes it can be difficult to understand it if you are not 100% focused on listening.

returned book due to possible edit to narration

I like the narrator. I was excited about the book... however it seemed like the narrator never took a breath. o found it difficult to follow. the narrator was also fairly monotoned and not "acting". I hink it was edited, but could be a bad rendition.
