Publisher's summary

Every man was once a boy. And every little boy has dreams, big dreams: dreams of being the hero, of beating the bad guys, of doing daring feats and rescuing the damsel in distress. Every little girl has dreams, too: of being rescued by her prince and swept up into a great adventure, knowing that she is the beauty.

But what happens to those dreams when we grow up? Walk into most churches, have a look around, and ask yourself: What is a Christian man? Without listening to what is said, look at what you find there. Most Christian men are...bored.

In Wild at Heart, John Eldredge invites men to recover their masculine heart, defined in the image of a passionate God. And he invites women to discover the secret of a man's soul and to delight in the strength and wildness men were created to offer.

Critic reviews

"The exceptional writing and ideational balance (and a sensitive interpretation by Kelly Dolan) make this a compelling effort to integrate the hero's gritty nature with the public good." (AudioFile)

Phenomenal

I recommend this to every man. Helped me to understand myself. Helped me to get free in my spirit and in my soul. Just a fatherly man relaying the truths of our ultimate father and who he means for us to be.

I had to listen to it twice it's just that good.

Great book for all men. He compares Jesus to mother Teresa and to William Wallace from the movie braveheart. Which one is he like? He talks about how the heart that was given to men from God is warrior like not like that of a man who has to work in a boring office all day. He mentions this being a reason for alcoholism and depression. It made me want to go out and be more like my inner child told me to be. Play in the mud type stuff.

Braveheart ! Alas !

It should be well understood that King David is made reference of 1028 times. This is a bloody man of war which Christ will precede. Christianity is the equivalent of Saving Private Ryan, D-Day in Normandy. I suggest that the audio and the written text be engaged together for optimal affect. This is the place where Real Men stand valiantly in truth and honor.

The boy within the man needs to hear this book.

I don't really know how to describe this book in just a few words. let me start out by introducing myself My name is Adam I'm a veteran. I didn't really think I needed to read this book to tell you the truth. I'm definitely a man who knows I have what it takes right; 10th Mountain D Co 2-14 inf; I'm warrior I know how to fight right ? Wrong ! when the enemy knows you intimately and is the father of lies he is the toughest opponent any man will face on this earth. The Bible is your weapon against him the gospel the good news of Jesus Christ ! You have to be in your word or the devil will devour you like a lion. this book by John Eldredge, It's like he grew up with me and he understood all of the attacks of the enemy when I was little before I even knew it was Satan before I even had that in my scope of understanding Satan was attacking me as a child through sexual immorality of all kinds. this book really helped to illuminate those things in my life that I didn't even know needed illuminating ! If you're a man who didn't have a father figure a strong healthy Christian father figure in your life You really need this book and if you're a man who had an awesome father read this book with your dad and strengthen me already amazing relationship you have with one another ! My highly suggest this book to any man who has struggled with anger or addiction or anything in between.

Possibly the most important book I’ve ever read

I can’t think of another book I’ve read that is having such a profound impact on me. I’ve been so encouraged in what has been resonating with my heart and in what I’m learning. It’s going to be things I’ll be revisiting for the rest of my days, and that’s a good thing. There’s so much life here.

Wanted to like but incoherent ramblings

Wanted to like it , doesn’t make much sense . Keeps saying “dangerous” men. What does he even mean… sensationalism and unrealistic examples and expectations

DO NOT READ

It is full of blasphemy and heresy and does not support scripture. It gets Luke 4:35 completely wrong.
