Publisher's summary

Is Christianity obsolete? Can an intelligent, educated person really believe the Bible? Or do the atheists have it right? In his new book, best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza ( What's So Great about America) investigates both Christianity and atheism and their influences on culture to show why there is, indeed, something great about Christianity.

Challenging the assumptions of both believers and doubters, D'Souza demonstrates: how Christianity created the framework for modern science and is compatible with the theory of evolution; how Christianity explains consciousness and free will, which atheists have to deny; and why, against all expectations, Christianity is the fastest-growing religion in the world, while secularism and atheism are on the decline. He argues that, ultimately, you can't have Western civilization without the Christianity that gave it birth.

Better than the Bible

This book helped me gain an understanding of Christianity that I could never quite grasp just by reading the Bible. It has deepened my faith greater than any church service I’ve ever attended. I highly recommend for everyone to read.

Fantastic reasonable defense of Christianity.

This is a very well researched and sound apologetic of Christianity. Every Christian should read it and it is a great resource to give to unbelievers.

Well thought out!

I came to this book skeptical of the author, due to some of his more recent and extreme positions. However, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, and it helped me reaffirm my faith by discussing arguments and thoughts that I hadn’t heard in a few over the last 33 years on Sunday morning.

There was a lot to like in this book

There was a lot to like in this book, but unfortunately it didn't quite come together to rate a five. The author was very thorough in his arguments, but that resulted in what seemed like going over the points that he had already "proven" (to his own satisfaction) several times. There are better books available on Audible if you are looking for apologetics such as Francis Collins' book on the Language of God, but the author does a credible job trying to cover a broad array of arguments.

Incredible comprehensive work!

I highly recommend this book. Dinesh is one of our nations finest thinkers and writes from a fair, open minded and totally fearless perspective. Christianity is not treated fairly in today’s media culture and Dinesh approaches each point thoroughly with an open mind and uses facts and data to support his case.

You’ll be much better informed after reading or listening to this book.

I do wish Dinesh had narrated the audio book but I guess you can’t have everything!

Great book if you want a "Big Picture" paradigm

What did you love best about What's So Great About Christianity?

The fact that it is reasonable. educational and very entertaining.

What other book might you compare What's So Great About Christianity to and why?

What's so Great About America; by Denish DeSouza. I'm glad he is not afraid to look at his subjects from both sides of the argument, and present a point of view that is logical, factual, and believable.

What does Jeff Riggenbach bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He seems to read the book with the heart and tone the author intended.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Comparing a commitment to Christ to a commitment to a spouse, and that it takes facts, experience, emotion and faith to move forward into a marriage commitment. We commit to these relationships because we hope that our decision will bring the highest form of happiness, peace and security to our lives.

Any additional comments?

This is a book for the times we live in; it's a book for anyone who wants to know the truth about Christianity especially in a world that is skeptical at best and hostile at worst on the subject.

Fabulous Overview of Atheism and Christianity

I hold a history degree from an Ivy League level institution yet this author provides one of the best histories the enlightenment’s philosophical, religious, and cultural developments (especially as it pertains to common perceptions and miss conceptions in our culture) that I have ever come across.
This book offers an important history of atheism with serious considerations of key arguments in a fair and balanced way that every bright should be aware of and any Christian would benefit from reading.
The book is focused on secular arguments but addresses all perspectives justly
