Publisher's summary

"One of the few places left to look for meaning in our contemporary culture is in story and myth," suggests Michael Meade. Weaving rhythm and words, this master storyteller, drummer, and scholar of mythology takes us on a compelling journey of self-discovery down the "roads of fire and water". Through two timeless stories - "The Spirit in the Bottle" and "The Water of Life" - we will learn how to relocate the spirit in our lives and awaken "the elder", an inner wisdom source.

From breaking through denial to exploring the genius within, Meade covers a variety of topics that take us to another time and place - an inner territory where we drink deeply of the elemental truths. With hypnotic and fiery storytelling, The Water of Life offers nourishment and inspiration for connecting to the generative forces that nourish all life and offer personal meaning.

Michael Meade is magical, healing, real yet hopeful

Michael Meade is an amazing storyteller. When the world gets me down and I can’t take anymore tragedy, or sorrow, or distraction, Michael Mead helps me to find my way. He’s connected to reality, and he doesn’t sugarcoat it, and he works among the most vulnerable that our culture is throwing away. Michael Meade helps me to find peace and beauty And hope in a world gone mad.

You destroyed the stories with bongos

I tried a half a dozen times to finish what is a very short book, but the incessant bongos drove me out of my ever loving mind.

The power of story

Amazing and powerful story. The drumming when he tells stories takes this audible book to another level. So grateful for his work.

Highly recommended by me

As a personal note, I came to the work of Michael Meade through the work and readings of Robert Bly.

When Michael tells a story with a drum beat, and then amplifies it with discourse, I have always been amazed. This work, “The Water of Life” is a great example, and I am sure I will listen to it many times.
