"Rick Warren is a master at communicating God's truth and understanding culture. Listen and learn from him!" (Leith Anderson, Pastor, Wooddale Church)
It is a pity that this wonderful book is not read by the author. Jay Charles is a good narrator, but he is unable to provide the inflections and convey the intended message as well as the author. I recommend the short version of the audiobook for this reasons.
All Rick Warren Books are GREAT!
Being able to relate to what is wrong with many churches today.
It was a real eye opener.
A must read for any christian that is wondering why his or her church is not growing or is dying.
I like using both at the same time
it would be impossible for me to listen to all of it at once. there's far too much information to process all at once
this book is so good all the leaders in my church are reading it now and I'm reading it for the second time.
I would listen this book again due to full of value added ideas applicable for every church small or big, new or even old.
"Inspiring and Practical"
It's taken me a long time to realise I could be listening to *Christian* books in the car, rather than secular stuff. The Purpose-Driven Church was my first experiment, and it was a great success. The book has inspired me and motivated me, and provided a wealth of ideas to try in our church.
I think the great value is that Dr Warren de-emphasises 'programmes' and 'techniques' in favour of methods of understanding the needs of a community, and then constructing appropriate, purpose-driven ministries to meet those needs and win people for Christ. While some of the suggestions and examples are perhaps a little American, the principles are clear and universal, as they are rooted in Scripture.
The reading was also excellent; clear and easy to listen to, and worked well with the text. I strongly recommend this to anyone involved in a new church or a church which is changing (or needs to change!).
