I really like thrillers. My favorite type of movie or book is one that has a unique perspective instead of a different version of the same story repeated by many different writers throughout the years. Many books are fine for a one-time listen, but to find one that's good enough to listen to again and again is a rare find indeed!!

    "The Best!!"

First, it's The Bible!! THE BOOK is STILL on the best seller's list!! Secondly, Max McLean can read like no other -- he makes even the "begats" sound interesting!! Finally, the background music only enhances, never overpowers, the narration!!

I had The Listener's Bible on CDs and gave them to my sister. She had the completely opposite reaction to them than I did, which sometimes happens in our tastes for books and music. I found myself regretting that I hadn't kept them or hadn't asked for them back. One day I had the brilliant idea to see if The Listener's Bible was on Audible and to my surprise and great pleasure it was!! Now they're forever in my iTunes and on my iPod!!

I've heard The Bible read before by several different people -- some of whom did a fine job and others who put me to sleep. Max McLean beats them all hands down!!

    "WONDERFULLY"
If you could sum up The Listener's Bible NIV in three words, what would they be?

That is impossible. There is so much that this bible has going for it.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would not, it is extremely well done.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the first scene of genesis. It is soclear, I felt like I was there!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Both, and more.

    Any additional comments?

Anyone looking for a good, cheap audiobivle should get this book

"One of the better readings of the Bible."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to someone who is looking for a reading of the scripture that attempts to walk the fine line between not being flat and not being dramatized.

What does Max McLean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Max McLean does a good job at bringing the scriptures to life. He is a little dramatic for my taste, but it is much more enjoyable than a dramatized version.

"Irrelevant Audio Sample & robotic narration"

The audio sample was just a spiel about copyright and nothing about the audio contained. I thought with the average ratings, this should be good for someone who wants to learn about the bible. I was wrong - In my OPINION, the narrator sounded like pushing text through MS Windows robotic Narrator. It had the same monotone vocal audio throughout the entire program. It lost my attention a lot and was difficult to keep up with or understand at times.
In my OPINION, for the price, it was not worth buying.
1 Star for the convenience of the bible in audio.
1 Star for the narrator (even though he sounded very bored) taking the labor to read whole thing.

    "The Listener's Bible NIV (Unabridged)."

The Bible itself is great, but what is disappointing is that this product only offers two books of the Bible (Hebrews & James), not the whole Bible. Unfortunately, this is not what the product description suggests. I only found out after downloading it.

While the content is fantastic, I'm sorry to say the dramatic delivery and the way this person speaks is very distracting.

    "Great performance! Buy this recording!!!"
What made the experience of listening to The Listener's Bible NIV the most enjoyable?

Max McLean has the perfect voice in expressing the different tones in the many passages of Scripture, and yet doesn't grow stale or old like many other bible recordings I've listened to.

What did you like best about this story?

The content, since I'm a Christian.

What does Max McLean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It's got a Shakespearean quality in the way it's read as well as a nice background music to help keep the tone and movement when it's being read.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I enjoyed this bible recording on a free app for a long time and was surprised to find it here! I now enjoy this recording without being

    Any additional comments?

I am a Christian scholar at a major university, so I've really listened to MANY different recordings of the SAME translation of Scripture. This one is really the most

    "Great voice, wrong emphasis"

The narrator has a great voice, it's A pity though THAT he seems to PUT emphasis ON all the wrong words.
    Also, it's a "plague", not a "pleg".

The narrator was so annoying I couldn't even get passed Genesis. He paused so much it was annoying. I couldn't handle listening anymore.
