Publisher's summary

This recording of the King James Bible features the entire Old and New Testaments.

Internationally acclaimed narrator Eric Martin is a recipient of the Gold Medal Award for narration and the National Communicator Award of Excellence. His command of the English language brings out the timeless poetry and spiritual wealth of the King James Bible. He imparts the Bible's divine truth in a sincere and compelling manner, enhancing the listener's spiritual perception and adding new dimensions to one's understanding of the sacred texts.

Martin is a born-again Christian who lends his support to many Jewish and Christian ministries. His work proclaiming God's word is deeply rooted in Romans 10:17: "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Note: Due to unavoidable constraints on the original recording, the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are out of sequence in this program.

Critic reviews

"Eric Martin narrates the holy Bible from the heart, and with full respect for the contextual settings of the words he reads. He is a passionate reader, and his conviction cannot but impact the listener. His command of the poetic language of the King James Bible brings out its incredible richness, revealing aspects of its truth which would otherwise be lost. I can therefore fully endorse this excellent narration, and encourage others to benefit from listening to it." (Bishop Timothy J. Walker, Fort Worth, Texas)

Very Clear Diction

What made the experience of listening to The King James Audio Bible the most enjoyable?

Every word is clearly, meticulously pronounced, including every difficult Bible name.

What did you like best about this story?

The Bible tends to be difficult to understand because of the old King James English. Because of this it tends to be difficult to read. In audio book form I'm finding it is much easier to follow and understand.

Which character – as performed by Eric Martin – was your favorite?

Some of the reviewers are critical of Eric Martin's reading performance. Remember, he is reading this as an audiobook, not commenting on it or dramatizing it as as clergymen often do. Eric Martin is speaking every word of the Bible as succinctly as possible. After listening to it a while I really do agree with this sort of neutral approach.

Any additional comments?

Face it -- few people will go to the effort of reading the Bible cover-to-cover as they would other types of books. This audiobook version of the Bible is a tremendous value and I wish I would have thought of purchasing it long ago. No matter how many sermons you've sat through, no matter how many verses you've turned to, if you listen to the Bible in this audiobook form you will likely find yourself quite surprised as I have by the actual content of this book. Don't be put off by the neutral reading style -- the Bible stories themselves are the true content.

Let The Word of God Light Your Way

If you could sum up The King James Audio Bible in three words, what would they be?

Articulate, Refreshing, and Straight-up with God's Blessings Coming Straight-down to You.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The King James Audio Bible?

When God told Sarah she was going to have a baby, and Sarah laughed, (Sarah being 90 years old and Abraham 100 years old), like God can't do it --and God can. I am 62 years old, my body feels like a 20 year old. God Can Do it!

Which scene was your favorite?

When Jesus said to His Father (God), "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, definitely!

Any additional comments?

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!

Excellent resource for scriptural memorization!

The gospel is brought to life by the animated narration. The words are pronounced clearly with emphasis where needed.

I love the Holy Scriptures!

I enjoyed listening to the Holy Scriptures day. I am definitely going to listen again and again! The Narrator was good. Only issue was that sometimes there were echoes or back ground sounds, but overall I loved every bit of it. Back to listening again....

Mediocre recording technique

I've never heard a commercially released recording to have such noticeable "print through," where you can hear a faint ghost image of the tape that is offset in time.

The accepted industry standard is to not rewind the analog tape after playing it - but to leave the reel "tails out."

The tape recording used to make these recordings must have been stored in the re-wound (tails-in).

Excellent narration once you get used to his style

Would you listen to The King James Audio Bible again? Why?

I do listen to parts of it repeatedly. It's one of the great works of English literature, aside from its religious value, and is well worth a listen even if you don't share the religious belief. The audio narration is a great way to become familiar with both the stories and the hundreds of words and expressions that have become a part of our language and literature.

What about Eric Martin’s performance did you like?

I was put off initially because it's a more restrained style than I'm used to in audiobooks, where usually there is quite a bit of "acting" and emoting. Actually, though, within a matter of minutes I got into the rhythm and style of it and I have now listened to it for many hours and enjoyed it very much. I found that I was very captivated by the storytelling and I caught many details of these familiar stories, due to Martin's skillful reading, that I had previously overlooked. I highly recommend it even if your initial reaction to his narration is skeptical.

Any additional comments?

I believe anyone who enjoys books and literature will get great enjoyment from reading (or listening to) the Bible cover to cover, and specifically in the King James version. There are so infinitely many references to this classic, both obvious and subtle, throughout British and American literature, that your enjoyment and understanding of the other books you read will be multiplied by "getting" those references to stories, characters, and turns of phrase that come directly from this monumental work.
