The Illusion of Time | [Eckhart Tolle]

The Illusion of Time

Eckhart Tolle invites us to explore the typical day-to-day state of consciousness for most people, a state of being where we hope that the future will be better, or fear that it will be worse, than what is happening at this moment. Eckhart leads us to the astonishing realization that the future ultimately only exists as "a thought in your head". He also elaborates on the sense of incompleteness we instill in ourselves by identifying with our thoughts, which always concern the past & future, creating unease with the present moment.

In this talk, Eckhart describes how "the more time dominates your life, the more identified you are with thought", including:

  • The way in which the concept of "time" is used by the mind to explain change
  • The conceptual identity we rely on to construct our sense of self
  • How this identity creates distance between 'self' and 'other'
  • How the human urge to create conflict provides a substitute for a true feeling of aliveness

    "Lose time!"
If you could sum up The Illusion of Time in three words, what would they be?

    Let go of time!

What about the narrator’s performance did you like?

Puts everything into perspective and it is the same subject matter and he even tells you that it is a repeat of everything he has been teaching but if you can get it on this dvd then get it! It took me listening to the Power Of Now, New earth, several of his retreats and other downloadable books. saw tons of you tube videos. but when I got the practicing the power of now is when it all came to light! BAM awakened. It is still a process and I know this but I have made more success in one week than my entire 49 years! Praise God!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had many extreme meditation experiences just even listening to his books.

    Any additional comments?

buy Power of now,the practicing the Power of now those two will change your life, if you let it!

    "Brilliant"

His thoughts seem so random but that is only because he is speaking from his heart; not his head. He communicates from the authenticity of who he is. At times he is hilariously funny and tremendously entertaining.

"Eckhart Tolle in his own voice: magnificent"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Illusion of Time to be better than the print version?

Yes because you can hear it in his voice and the content is brilliant when expressed this way.

What did you like best about this story?

The fundamental idea of what time means in daily life

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The beginning. It's surprising! New Yorkers beware ;)

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh several times when Eckhart used his wit to tell a joke.
