Publisher's summary

Available for the first time in audio, Fulton Oursler's 1949 novel about the life of Jesus Christ was written with powerful simplicity and set against a rich historical background. Using a fictionalized narrative, Oursler takes events from the Gospels of the New Testament and adds imaginative dialogues and personalities to recreate the first century, while maintaining Biblical integrity. As you experience Christ's nativity, the Holy Family's flight into Egypt, Christ's public ministry, passion, death, and resurrection, you will almost feel as if you were there. With an introduction by Billy Graham

Great literature

This book is a true work of faith and hope. Fulton Oursler explains the gospels to tell us who Jesus really is and how his teachings are relevant today.

Timeless, truly the greatest story ever told.

I would recommend that this book, or audio be gifted to any friend or family member who may be on the margins of belief. Most often, there is a lot of confusion or ho-hum about what Christianity is, even among us Christians. Well, here it is, a person, the person of Jesus Christ, and this is his story. I enjoyed the probably language and scenarios behind the Biblical narrative of the Gospels. Those who walked and ate with Jesus were real people who had real lives like the rest of us. This story does well to include all that might have happened between the narrative so to wrap up the most important communication by God to man: God is here, he has suffered for our sake, and by his resurrection he has promised new and eternal life for all who repent and believe.

Dull Performance of The Greatest Story

I appreciate the foreword by Billy Graham and can agree with his sentiments. This novelization of the gospel omits many details while elaborating on others with details meant to excite the imagination about characters thoughts and dialogue not specified in the Bible. The appeal would be similar to how many Christians like the television series The Chosen for making familiar stories relatable as told from a different perspective. I first became aware of The Greatest Story Ever Told from a classic film production, but later found the audiobook streaming free on Audible Premium+ with a mostly dull monotone narration.
