Publisher's summary

Are you putting your whole faith in God but still living as if everything is up to you?

You may believe in God, attend church, and generally treat people with kindness…but are you living as if God doesn't exist? Have you surrendered to God completely, living every day depending upon the Holy Spirit?

Pastor and bestselling author Craig Groeschel will lead you on a personal journey toward an authentic, God-honoring life. This honest, hard-hitting, and eye-opening look into the ways people believe in God but live as if he doesn't exist is a classic of discipleship training. Groeschel's personal journey will help you break down your own barriers between simple belief and a more intentional faith.

This book will help you:

  • Let go of the shame of your past and know that you’re forgiven.
  • Embrace Christ’s profound love for you.
  • Believe in the power of prayer.
  • Give up control when life doesn't seem fair.
  • Trust God with all your anxious thoughts, heartache, struggles, and pain.

From the author of Winning the War in Your Mind, The Christian Atheist is a rallying cry to get honest with God, shed the self-sufficiency and the hypocrisy, and live a life that truly brings glory to Christ.

Good Read... Hard to listen to Reader...

This book has been a good one. Good story lines... Great stories. I have a had a problem with the narrator however. His constant negative intonations and underlying downtrodden tone kept me from really enjoying the best of this book! It's funny, I've listened to a lot of books, I've heard lisps, unintentional whistles, & of course accents, but never has a tone bothered me so much. It's as if the reader spoke with a smirk on his face the whole book. I'm sorry, because of that, I've got to downgrade from 4 to 3 stars.

boring narrator

What did you like best about The Christian Atheist? What did you like least?

The book is well thought out and written.

What didn’t you like about Tom Schiff’s performance?

The narrator, is pretty hard to listen to. It seems like the guy reading really doesn't believe what he is reading and is trying to make the content boring. What's more, Craig Groeshel is a fairly animated speaker whereas Tom Schiff read in a pretty monotone voice. Audible, please find narrators that are a better match.

It really made me examine my own life. I've already read this book 3 times. I find it very helpful in getting my priorities back on track.

A book for ALL "so called" Christians

If you could sum up The Christian Atheist in three words, what would they be?

Truth with humor

Who was your favorite character and why?

To get a point across, the author gives many examples from his own life. His stories are right to the point and he does it with a sense of humor.

Which scene was your favorite?

The author gave several different examples of what he refers to as a Christian Athiest. I could identify with just about every single one of them. What an eye opener...without judgment.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I love the fact that the author is candid and honest about the way he was living his life.

Great content but this performance is REALLY borin

Would you try another book from Craig Groeschel and/or Tom Schiff?

I have seen Craig Groeschel speak and he is an amazing, funny, insightful, and impactful speaker. This book just does not reflect his speaking. Partly its the writing... takes a long time to get to certain points, I got bored before getting to the point. But mostly the reading performance is really boring... a droning, unexcited voice that put me to sleep. Didn't finish the book even though it probably has some great content.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Craig's personal stories

How could the performance have been better?

some excitement in the voice.

We are all Atheist sometimes

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sad, but true. I am a Christian but I sometimes act and think like God can't handle everything in my life. This book has helped see things in a new "Light" (pun intended). It was helpful to know that even a Pastor like Craig goes through the things I do in his walk with Jesus. We often feel we are the only ones that doubt, worry and struggle with life. Thank you Craig for your wonderful insight into Christian unbelief. May the Lord help us all to overcome unbelief.

Food for Thought

Would you consider the audio edition of The Christian Atheist to be better than the print version?

I found this book to be both an eye opener and a humbler.

Good Reminders GREAT Narration,

I’m glad I listened to this book. I almost didn’t buy it because of all the reviews stating the narration was terrible.

I think this is a good book for anyone. It is good for new Christians and for People who have been Christians for many years. You may think because you have been a good “Christian” for years you don’t need a book like this. It is easy for all Believers to fall into complacency or simply do things out of habit. This book hits many areas in our lives where we may be falling short, and ways to overcome them. There are some good reminders and I found myself challenged in few areas. It definitely made me check my heart. New believers will see that no one is doing the Christianity thing perfectly all the time, as well as give them things to think about and try.

I enjoy reading or listening to this author’s books, but I don’t enjoy the author’s presentation/animated way of talking. I very much enjoyed this Narrator! He read wonderfully! Just because he doesn’t talk the way the author does, doesn’t mean it’s terrible narration. I would have never bought the book if the author would have read it himself. I say all of this for others who may not want to read/listen due to the Narration score. If you like hyped up, sometimes over the top way of speaking/listening, you may not like this. If you like normal, calm way of talking, good humor delivered well, you will like this narration.

well done

If you really want to know about yourself in plain English then this is the book for you. Don't pick this book up if you are content with living with your head in the sand, spiritually speaking of course. Craig Groeschel does an excellent job of describing what a "christian atheist" is. Talk about being convicted. If we are honest with God and ourselves we will all find there is a little bit, or even a lot of christian atheism in our own lives.

I put this book off for a long time...

I guess God meant for me to read in His timing.
It is a very very good book. By far, one of the most down to earth, honest I've read, and coming from the heart of a Pastor of a large church, very hopeful for the rest of us (sometimes) Christian atheists, that we do not struggle alone.
So thankful for this work. I think this will be one I read again... and again.
Highly recommend, unless you're blessed enough to have this walk with Christ down to perfection. Which I can't help but doubt. 😊
