It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. The New Testament is commonly divided into the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, Paul’s epistles, the general epistles, and the book of Revelation. The four Gospels - the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John - are accounts of the life of Christ. The Book of Acts records the history of the Church and the apostles, especially Paul’s missionary travels, after Christ’s death.

Editorial reviews
In the theology of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, The Book of Mormon is the word of God which recounts "the history and God’s dealings with the people who lived in the Americas between approximately 600 BC and 400 AD". The origins of this holy book are fascinating: An angel supposedly told Joseph Smith, in 1827, where to find the buried golden plates that contained the ancient scripture.
On his website, Sean Crisden justly boasts that he has "the voice of reason". In this performance of The Book of Mormon, complete with helpful chapter numbers and verse notations, Crisden's voice is almost as smooth and authoritative as a true prophet's.
Publisher's summary
Here is an audio edition of the sacred text of the Latter-Day Saint movement that followers believe contains the writings of ancient prophets who lived on the American continent from approximately 2200 B.C. to A.D. 421. A fascinating listen for religious scholars and denominational adherents alike.

Givens examines the Book of Mormon first and foremost in terms of the claims that its narrators make for its historical genesis, its purpose as a sacred text, and its meaning for an audience which shifts over the course of the history it unfolds. The author traces five governing themes in particular - revelation, Christ, Zion, scripture, and covenant - and analyzes the Book's central doctrines and teachings. Givens also provides samples of a cast of characters that number in the hundreds, and analyzes representative passages.

Story
Though Joseph Smith's run for president is now best remembered for its gruesome end, the renegade campaign was revolutionary. Smith called for the total abolition of slavery, the closure of the country's penitentiaries, and the reestablishment of a national bank to stabilize the economy. But Smith's most important proposal was for an expansion of protections for religious minorities. At a time when the Bill of Rights did not apply to individual states, Smith sought to empower the federal government to protect minorities when states failed to do so.

Compared to the Puritans, Mormons have rarely gotten their due, often treated as fringe cultists or marginalized polygamists unworthy of serious examination. In Kingdom of Nauvoo, Benjamin E. Park excavates the brief, tragic life of a lost Mormon city, demonstrating that the Mormons are essential to understanding American history writ large. Using newly accessible sources, Park re-creates the Mormons' 1839 flight from Missouri to Illinois.

Story
A collection of inspired writings (originally in Greek) about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, the apostles, and other followers of Jesus Christ.

Story
The Apocrypha ("hidden things") are contemporaneous with the Old Testament, but were not officially accepted as part of the Bible when the Hebrew "canon" was set. They did, however, form part of the Greek Scriptures and came into English Bibles by that route. The writings of the Apocrypha run the whole gamut of literary genres: histories, romances, devotional works, proverbs, and sermons. Many complement parts of the Old Testament, and listeners will recognize some familiar Biblical characters in the narratives, such as Daniel and Esther.

The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Hard to Judge such workmanship
No matter how many times I read this book I’m taken from the image of someone who is writing parallel storylines, then the pages and pages of or or or or just to make sure he covers all the bases he stole it or he gave it or he received it or or or then to the pages of acting like a compass is a new magical gift or serpents killing everything and eating raw flesh and then the pages of exact duplicates of the 1611 & 1625 versions when he had to get back to preaching parts. The whole time I try to be open to possibilities but just feel like I cannot barely stand the lies. One of my favorite imagines is what is done with “LukeWarm” but I kept reading...
Anyway of course like always I recommend reading and more reading.
A person can never read enough, though do keep in mind GIGO -garbage in garbage out, so try not to offend the followers with questions they cannot answer, because they obviously will not be able to answer them.
If you would like to discuss parts feel free to write me and we will look at the text together and not focus on the writers life choices because to start a religion without a huge govt like we have now was very easy imagine going with a band across the landscape and all of the sudden you don’t want to believe anymore... where will you get your food.
Just too funny, like now the network of a church non profit business model is immense and to get out well... see how easily it is to discuss factors of control, so we will just talk text how about that. So this time I will give 3 stars for years of mind manipulating effort.
Meanwhile read and read more. I think I will top this off with another reading of the Koran.

Good book but...
What did you like best about The Book of Mormon? What did you like least?
Love the book but the presentation was terrible. Sean Crisden was great however the book was hard to navigate and heaven help if you lost your place. Also, the chapter and verse were repeated (the verse twice) before every verse which was quite annoying.

Very poor production
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Well except for all the time I spent listening to the author repeating the numbers of the chapter and verse.
What didn’t you like about Sean Criden’s performance?
Very flat. It would be a fantastic audio book if it had been done like a performance. But it sounded like a librarian reading a dictionary.
Do you think The Book of Mormon needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I'd like to read the 2/3rds of the Golden Plates that were sealed, yes
Any additional comments?
I really hope you redo this. I would be enthralled if this was done without the verses and with a passionate perfomer narrating it. This was a disappointment.

Not pleased with the narrative style
Would you consider the audio edition of The Book of Mormon to be better than the print version?
No
What did you like best about this story?
Content is interesting
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sean Criden?
Anyone who doesn't keep repeating the book, chapter and verse with every single verse.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
3 Nephi
Any additional comments?
Record this again without the book, chapter and verse with every single verse and then I might download it to my Kindle again. Until then I will just continue to read the book.

Another Testament of Jesus Christ!
If you could sum up The Book of Mormon in three words, what would they be?
The Book is True!
What other book might you compare The Book of Mormon to and why?
I compare it to The New Testament, because it is a composition of a family, through the ages that struggles to follow God's command..with great opposition by two of the brothers who start their own clan. It is a story of great adventure as the Nephites send missionaries to the misguided Laminites to try and save them. It is full of mighty spirit filled sermons and testamonies...It also is a book for our day..as it tells of the Gadianton Robbers who were a secret society who infiltrated the government and turned the minds of the people. The account unfolds as each head of the Nephite population writes down an account of his days ..some of them are long and some incredibly short...but always fascinating as it tells of great faith in the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ!!
What didn’t you like about Sean Crisden’s performance?
He was really terrible and I was very disappointed because having finally found the Book on Audible his reading was tedious and why he gave the book, chapter and verse with EVERY verse, is incomprehensible to me!! There are so many talented narrators why this man was chosen is a mystery.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was moved by the Spirit as I know the story well...and despite the narrator, it is always good to renew the account of a very great and faithful account of the Journey they embarked on being led by the Hand of God.
Any additional comments?
Please Audible...replace this recording with a narrator who can bring this beautiful book to life for the benefit of all who listen!!

This book contains the words of Christ
If you listen to this book as if Christ is speaking to you, pray to know if the words are his, and try to listen with your heart as much as your mind, you can know that this is a record of God's children on the American continent and a record of Christ's teachings among them after his crucifixion and resurrection. I leave my own testimony that the words in this book are the words of Christ to us in our time.
