Publisher's summary

Dr. Michael S. Heiser, a scholar-in-residence at Faithlife Corporation, presents 15 years of research on what the Bible really says about the unseen world of the supernatural unfiltered by tradition or by theological presuppositions. People shouldn't be protected from the Bible, Dr. Michael S. Heiser says, but theological systems often do just that, by explaining away difficult or troublesome passages of Scripture because their literal meaning doesn't fit into our tidy systems.

Who were the sons of God? Who were the Nephilim? Where do angels fit into the supernatural hierarchy? Why did God find it necessary to have the Israelites destroy the populations of entire cities man, woman, and child? What relation does Jesus bear to the rest of the supernatural world? Dr. Michael S. Heiser tackles these questions and many more in his books Supernatural and The Unseen Realm.

In both books, Dr. Michael S. Heiser shines a light on the supernatural world, not a new light, but rather the same light the original, ancient readers and writers of Scripture would have seen it in.

After these books, you won't be able to read the Bible in the same way again.

Supernatural, What the Bible Teaches About the Unseen World and Why It Matters presents this approach to reading and understanding scripture for the person in the pew. The Unseen Realm covers the same material but at a deeper, complex, and highly documented way, for pastors, the seminarian, or serious students of the Bible.

Careful

Spit the bones out and eat the meat. There is something to be said about keeping “the main thing, the main thing,” and unfortunately, this book does not do that in many places. Multiple times the author’s opinion is stated as facts. For example, that the “us” at the beginning of Genesis 1:26 is referring to a heavenly council and not the trinity is conjecture and not stated fact. Unless I am incorrect, there is nothing else in Genesis that supports that opinion. Read this book if you have a firm grounding in Truth but I would not advise it to anyone beginning their walk with the Lord. There is much we do not know or fully understand about the Kingdom of God, the mystery of the Almighty, and that is okay.

The Bible Aint So Boring Now....

Where does Supernatural rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In terms of making me think different. in the top 3.

What other book might you compare Supernatural to and why?

Anything by Brian Godawa, because we draws from Hieser's source material for the rules of his stories. If you have not read those stories. Well... To me that's like saying, "I have read The Silmarillion why bother with Lord of the Rings..." Story...

Which character – as performed by Gordon Greenhill – was your favorite?

Jesus, from the vantage point of the author, is very calculated and heroic. NO CHEESINESS HERE TRUST ME! Lots of Jesus books are overly preachy this is just hammers a lot of good (unique) points home in a way nobody else has. Seriously. Nobody has ever written about Jesus with this vantage point for at least 2000 years.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When you understand when Jesus calls out Satan and Banias, and fools him into killing him you realize the new testament is the greatest chess game ever played. Jesus outsm, arted the Devil. Dude he was so smart about it too. Just killer.

Any additional comments?

Just listen to the book. If you hate it you can always return it. However you would be a fool to becasue info like this kind of info only comes around every.... well.. 2000 years apparently. You wont return it. You will sit back and smoke a cigar and think..."God's kind of a bada$$ isn't he?" He is. This book proves it.

Tough to put down!

Answered questions I didn't know I had but filled a void created by the traditional heartfelt one liners we get and give walking the believers walk. Its tough to console and be an encourager when it seems evil wins unjustly. I had read the book of Enoch which made the subject material somewhat familiar but wow; what truths were made clear, helpful and specific to the root of evil. Dr Heiser's clarification and cross referencing of Scripture reveals how evil has been and is playing its hopeful hand against God's divine Kingdom family and offers more than the traditional answer of "hang in there, we win in the end". "Why it matters" applies what Scripture says, what God is doing, and summarizes how crucial it is for each believer to realize our place and our part in the Kingdom family of God. Its not even that I didn't know, but I didn't know. Hahaha...I know that didn't make sense. This is an amazing piece of work just in time to rally the saints for Kingdom building because I believe the end is near and evil will try harder and harder. Thank you Dr. Heiser for your work. Thank you Mr. Greenhill for reading. You were easy to listen to and didn't detract from the material. It was a grand experience all around.

Intriguing and worth careful consideration

The author is thorough in his treatment on the subject. the book reads like the author is well acquainted with the subject and has taken the time to consider it as a whole, the big picture as well as the specific passages with which the author deals. It's flavor is as a cohesive whole and not of a proof texted treaty.
