Great Read

This is one of the best books that I've read. I bought both the audio and paperback, just to get the most out of this study. The reader does a great job of conveying Bill's passion that is in the book. The book spoke so well to areas in my life that made it a relevant read. I actually played the audio version as I went about my day. This is a powerful and empowering book. It was just what I needed. I will be listening to this many more times. Highly recommend.

Amazing Book

This book is such a great tool for believers to remain hopeful and kingdom-minded! Bill has done an excellent job explaining practical ways and truths in the Bible on how to keep ourselves from being discouraged.

Tim Lundeen has done an excellent job reading it too. Recommended.

Premise is wrong!

What would have made Strengthen Yourself in the Lord better?

Rejecting the premise that the Lord is the author of testing. James 1:13 says that God is not the author of this testing. How did Jesus, Paul and the many other Apostles strengthen themselves in the Lord?

What was most disappointing about Bill Johnson’s story?

The character of David was not so hot when he was tempted while lusting after Bethsheba he did not strengthen himself in the Lord, nor did he seek the shelter of the Lord after he committed the adultery. To further hide his sin, he killed the husband of the woman he committed adultery with instead of trusting God to deal with the mess. See 2 Samuel 2:1 where David again asks God for direction (he did not ask where the woman was concerned).

How did the narrator detract from the book?

No life in the narration, like he is reading from some notes. WHAT is "...is a man after my own heart." Twice he uses the disciples in the boat to show their lack of faith (is that the only biblical examples he has?)

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed in the book. No commentary on the only time David did not strengthen himself in the Lord where Uriah The Hittite was concerned. David knew it was another man's wife! God could have and would have helped David (2 Sam. 12:8) but, David did not ask...

Any additional comments?

BTW, I listened to this three times...David and The Apostle Paul are my favorite leaders. How did Paul strengthen himself in the Lord? David was King, Prophet, Minstrel, and Psalmist; Paul was Prophet and later Apostle. I think we spend too much time in the Old Covenant and not enough time explaining the New Covenant and the Government of God for today and tomorrow.

Packs a Punch!

This short read packs so much insightful information, I have had to listen to it a few times to process all of the "spiritual meaty" content! My only disappointment is that it wasn't read by Bill Johnson himself.

Transformational!

I just finished reading this book during the quarantine. God had impressed these truths upon my heart in the preceding months. This book came to confirm God once and His direction for my life!
