Publisher's Summary

When is the last time you thought about the state of your soul? The health of your soul isn't just a matter of saved or unsaved. It's the hinge on which the rest of your life hangs. It's the difference between deep, satisfied spirituality and a restless, dispassionate faith. In an age of materialism and consumerism that tries to buy its way to happiness, many souls are starved and unhealthy, unsatisfied by false promises of status and wealth. We've neglected this eternal part of ourselves, focusing instead on the temporal concerns of the world - and not without consequence. Best-selling author John Ortberg presents another classic that will help you discover your soul - the most important connection to God there is - and find your way out of the spiritual shallow-lands to true divine depth. With characteristic insight and an accessible story-filled approach, Ortberg brings practicality and relevance to one of Christianity's most mysterious and neglected topics.

    "Good Book - poor narrator"
What did you like best about Soul Keeping? What did you like least?

Great Ideas - much of which are a summary of Dallas Willard's thoughts on Spiritual Formation. Ortberg is funny and has a great voice - it's too bad he did not narrate this audio book. It really detracted from his ideas that the narrator failed to capture his humor or proper emphasis.

    "Dallas Willard for Dummies"

I have read several of Dallas Willard's books. Some of them with friends who were equally intent on gleaning just some of the rich insights they presented. And we did, however always with some frustration and disappointment because we knew there was more.
John Ortberg has given people like me—and I know there are more—a gift. His account of his personal pilgrimage with Dallas as his mentor has afforded me a better understanding of some of the concepts I longed to understand from some of Dallas' writings.
Thank you, John. I mean no disrespect for the headline of this review...only gratitude.

"The most important book you'll read?"

We spend our lives trying to figure out meaning, purpose and direction. We typically deal with the surface because it's so hard to understand The depths of the soul. 10 months into the hardest year of my life full of busyness and health scares, someone highly recommend this book to me and it was used by God as an anchor for my soul. While reading this book and as I finished it I found a calm her water and some time to take a few breaths because I understand now more than ever the importance of soul keeping. This book will be at or near the top of my list is the most important book I've ever read. Huge thanks to Pastor John Ortberg for writing it and for the influence of Dallas Willard in his life.

    "Starts slow, ends well"

I felt like the beginning took a long time establishing "what is the soul," but maybe that was helpful for some.
Last half was excellent and inspiring.
