Publisher's summary

The true nature of our mind is brilliant, clear, and joyful. But we don't experience this reality amid the swirl of stresses, thoughts, and emotions of day-to-day life. Our Pristine Mind is a practical guide to uncovering our naturally comfortable state of mind and reconnecting with the unconditional happiness that is already within us. Using straightforward, accessible language, Orgyen Chowang Rinpoche leads us through the path of Pristine Mind meditation, a practice from the profound teachings known as Dzogchen. This book presents the entire journey of meditation, from the very beginning all the way to the complete happiness of enlightenment. It is a realistic, natural process that can be practiced and experienced by anyone.

Perfect Meditation Book To Bring You Happiness

What did you love best about Our Pristine Mind?

I read the Book "Our Pristine Mind" and I was waiting for an audio book to be available. It was always something that I thought would be helpful to listen to in a car, while I'm walking, or to complement my meditation practice. I was right! I started listening to it on my commute, and I really feel like it puts my entire day into perspective and gives me a new way to view the world.

What other book might you compare Our Pristine Mind to and why?

I don't think there is a meditation book available today apart from this one that captures the entire end-to-end path of meditation and explains the concepts of enlightenment for a modern audience in a way that is approachable and achievable with practice.

Which scene was your favorite?

The guided meditation was my favorite.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Meditation is not what you think.

Any additional comments?

I really think this book helped me discover my untapped potential. I listened to the book as soon as it was available, and I noticed while I was driving or walking how much comfort, peace, and joy I felt from listening to the book. It feels like the type of book I will listen to again and again.

Can’t ask for a better book on this topic

The only difficult thing about this book is that I now realize there is nothing left to do but actually practice meditation, seriously!

I have been reading on this topic incessantly, listening to Sam Harris’ Waking up and guests etc etc etc… anything but actually committing to a regular consistent meditation practice…

After this book….hands up (or shall I say together), I relent. There is nothing much more any book could possibly tell you about realizing your better (pristine) mind through Buddhist practice than this.

It’s as straightforward and comprehensible as any book could possibly be on this most important of all things, your transformation to a non-conditionally peaceful being.

I really do like Sam’s app and others such as James Swartz and various others, but this book goes right to the very heart of the matter in an astonishingly resonant, modern, no jargon, clear manner that anyone of any stripe could appreciate.

So now it’s up to me to do the practice. (Like lifting weights, which I actually do, reading about it does not do much for you without the lifting)…

There’s a 100 day free meditation guideline by the author if you see his website, starting Jan 1, I’ve signed up…

This is what reading this book will leave you concluding. You simply must develop a practice to obtain the benefits.

Every human on earth could benefit from this book regardless of any other affiliations or viewpoints.

Great book filled with many excellent insights.

I recommend to combine it with another book by Longchenpa - Treasury of the Dharmadhatu. These two books will help a lot.

Priceless insight

For decades, I have just once in a while slipped into a sublime state - usually when in some encounter with nature. Alongside this, I have from time to time tried to develop a meditation practice, sensing that this was the route to being able to access this sublime state on a more repeatable and regular basis. Achieving that access has so far eluded me. Orgyen's book provides simple and beautiful insight into this connection and how to make it a part of your everyday experience. I realise now that slipping into this state for me is as simple as becoming absorbed in my immediate experience and allowing the distractions of what Orgyen calls "mental events" to fall away to reveal a world of spectacular beauty. After decades of not quite getting meditation, Orgyen has in the space of a couple of listening to this book provided me with a key that I intuitively know will transform my everyday experience and accelerate growth of a much more beautiful way of spending the balance of my life. Orgyen, where were you when I was twenty?!!!

Outstanding

Don’t be put off or confused by the simplicity of the message. More than occasionally repetitive, but a real treasure to hear.
