Pastor Kyle Idleman doesn't just want to be a fan of Jesus, he wants to full heartedly commit to him and be a follower of Jesus. But how can you make the leap from fan to follower? In Not a Fan Idleman uses biblical examples to show how the people who met Jesus also had to decide if they were fans or followers, and what it meant for them to then become followers. Being a follower doesn't mean that you go to church every week, that you slap a Jesus fish on the back of your car, and that you give to charity. That's what a fan does. What a follower of Jesus does, Idleman observes, is die to themselves each and every moment of the day because 'you can't say yes to following Jesus unless you say no to living for yourself.' In this three part book Idleman helps you to discover whether you are a fan or a follower, how to recognize the invitation Jesus has given, and what following Jesus looks like in your daily life. With humor and real life examples to draw you closer to Jesus, Kyle Idleman compels each and every one of us to Not Be A Fan.

It is such a breath of fresh air to come accross a writer who strikes and even balance between the grace of Christ and what it is to really deny yourself and follow him. Some people are all about a list of rules, whilst others maintain that it is alll grace but Kyle strikes and even balance between the two and says that this is what makes the difference between a follower and a fan.
Kyle says that a fan might not make it to heaven, and whilst I disagree with his postion I certainly liked what he said about being a true follower of Christ was.
With candid stories from his own life, Kyle is both transparent and honest in his personal stories as well as telling stories from other people. He is a gifted teacher and story teller and any person who reads or downloads this book is in for a treat.
I loved this book. I loved the challenging way that the author examines each aspect of ones relationship with Christ. In a style that is often humerous, and often bone-chilling, Idleman uses modern day analogies to clearly depict the difference between being a "fan" of Jesus, and KNOWING Jesus.
I subtracted one star due to the fact that I am not sure that the author conveys enough hope to the reader as the book goes along. One occasionally gets a sense of "Geesh! I'll never live up to this!" Idleman does make the point that Jesus is not expecting perfection, but authenticism; however, I am not sure he emphasizes it often enough. But, if I could subtract half of a star for that, I would--because it is really insignificant overall.
I knew I was a follower and wanted to be but now I clearly see the difference and can easily spot when I'm acting like just a fan. Loved the book so much I'm forcing my boyfriend to buy it - you can never reignite the passion for Christ too much. :)
Simplistic and truthful read that really challenges any Christian believer to reflect on their life and put a clear, focused effort on their behavior going forward.
Kyle Idleman has written a Christian classic on par with "All Of Grace" by Spurgeon. Written more for the current Christian then an unbeliever, but this book would be a great book for someone considering becoming a Christian.
If you don't wince at your own failings as a Christian "Fan" then you were not listening.
I have recently began my journey back to Christianity......but not toward religion. I have always admired Jesus as a great prophet and teacher, not as the son of God. I decided (mostly God helped me decide) I needed to broaden my belief and commit to the beliefs of Christianity. But what does it mean to be a Christian, what does it mean to FOLLOW Jesus. I have always been a some what FAN but Jesus said "Follow Me" - Matthew 16:24. Just so happened I decided to read about how to FOLLOW Jesus and came across this book. To me this book separates the FANS of Jesus from the FOLLOWERS. This book showed me the path I needed to go on and shoved me forward. I am not a FAN......I am a FOLLOWER!!! I hope you will become a follower with the passion and perseverance Kyle talks about in this book. It is all or nothing!!!!!
Finally a truthful and unapologetic guide to following Jesus! I have a hunch some of the modern day Christians are not going to like what the book says.
No....but I would love to....HE GETS IT!!!!!
I actually did listen to this book in one sitting. I could not stop.
Yes, already have. It has great insight and tells you what you know you should do. Has great stories and examples.
I liked the stories all of them. They all stood out.
Every chapter was my favorite.
It made me think seriously about my faith so I would say my reaction was introspective.
Personally a very convicting book, I recommend it to every person who calls themself a Christian to discover the truth!
The "DTR" process we all need to go through.
Please get this book and listen many times!
