Publisher's summary

Mere Christianity is C.S. Lewis' forceful and accessible doctrine of Christian belief. First heard as informal radio broadcasts and then published as three separate books, The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity brings together what Lewis sees as the fundamental truths of the religion. Rejecting the boundaries that divide Christianity's many denominations, C.S. Lewis finds a common ground on which all those who have Christian faith can stand together, proving that "at the center of each there is something, or a Someone, who against all divergences of belief, all differences of temperament, all memories of mutual persecution, speaks with the same voice".

Critic reviews

"Geoffrey Howard's performance is superb; he is clear and unhurried, giving just the right emphasis and/or inflection....Whether or not one agrees with Lewis's arguments, it is a pleasure to hear such a skillful reading of an eloquent work." (Library Journal)

CS Lewis the Christian

Without a doubt "Mere Christianity" is one of the best books of the time. C.S. Lewis has challenged us (from the grave) to be more than we are. He inspires us to search within ourselves as we develop the relationship we are to have with Jesus Christ.

I am so glad that this book has been reprinted and also produced as an Audible audiobook.

I recommend this work highly to those who want to know the man behind the Narnia series. My next purchase is to be the Audible presentation of the Chronicles of Narnia.

A must for non-believing truth seekers

What did you love best about Mere Christianity?

My conversion to Christianity was not through this book alone, but this was the suppositional foundation of my faith.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Although this question is not applicable to this book, God would be the answer because He is the great I AM.

What does Geoffrey Howard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The British accent for starters. Also being new to Christianity it is good to hear others pronunciation of related vocabulary not common outside of the church.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. I changed my world view on the theory of everything.

Any additional comments?

If you are reading this review, and have not read the book I would suggest you do so. In doing so as an atheist or agnostic heed Lewis' warning that when seeking you shall find. If you are looking for universal truth, it can start here.

Too Much Hype

I think I would've enjoyed this book more if not for all the hype surrounding it. Not to say it was bad, fictitious, or boring, but I was expecting to gain some kind of insight that it just did not deliver. The only knowledge I came out of the other side with was more of who CS Lewis was and what he believed, not necessarily about Christianity as a whole. Still. Not a bad read, it kept my attention and I'm glad I finally gave it a chance.

Great summery of the fundamentals of Christianity.

Great summery of the fundamentals of Christianity. You truly feel as those the author is just sitting down to talk to you and not like a lecture or sermon.

A Good Foundation

I Love the simplicity in which the author explains the theory of God, and how he gives the listiner a view from different prespectives of religious beliefs.

Wonderfully clear view of Christianity

It's very refreshing to here such a clear view of Christianity. C.S. Lewis paints an amazingly unbiased picture of the whole of Christendom. In my opinion this book should be read or listen to by any Christian wondering where they stand on Christian issues.
