Editorial reviews

One of the four main gospels, Matthew's carefully structured account provides an in-depth genealogy to show God's purposeful design while linking both the Old and New Testaments. Matthew's story is an earlier account of Jesus' birth and public services, spanning from the Son of God's miraculous birth to his crucifixion and resurrection. Dr. Bill Creasy handles this gospel's stirring rhetoric with intelligence; meanwhile, his straightforward diction and soothing tone make this lecture approachable for all listeners. While occasional background noises can distract, this lesson is overall a fascinating look at one of the world's most important texts.

Publisher's summary

Although Matthew may not be the first written Gospel, like Isaiah it is positioned first in its sequence of four Gospels. Opening with a 42-generation genealogy, Matthew reminds us of the linear nature of God’s plan, and Matthew forms a link—a swinging door—between the Old and New Testaments. Matthew is a Jew writing for a Jewish audience, and his Gospel provides our first perspective on the birth and public ministry of Jesus Christ. Join Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he leads us through this dazzling work.

Best Bible study ever

Any additional comments?

This is the best Bible study I have listened to ever. Dr. Creasy makes the Gospel both understandable and relevant through his insights of context, history and geography. His stories also make it entertaining. He has eliminated the mythology of Jesus and his disciples and made them understandable, flesh and blood friends that I wish I could have known. I am certainly continuing in the study series.

Excellent Bible Study

Any additional comments?

I also posted this on Amazon.com.

Dr. Creasy covers each book verse-by-verse, providing context to the material by explaining other passages in the Bible that may relate to a passage under study, with descriptions of corresponding historical events and the geography and their relationship to the passage, as well as anecdotes from his travels or study. I find it extremely helpful to study the Bible in context with geography and history.

As explained in the opening chapter of Genesis, this study starts with Genesis in the Old Testament, then moves to Matthew in the New Testament, then Exodus and Leviticus in the Old Testament, then back to Mark in the New Testament, and so on. Dr. Creasy does this because 1) if covered in weekly segments, as done in his class, it would be in year 5 before he got to Matthew, and 2) to help show the relationship between Old Testament and New Testament.

This is the second in the Logos Bible Study series, preceded by Genesis and followed by Exodus.

I have been looking for a guideline online, but haven't been able to find one yet. If I find one, I will try to post the next book to be read in each book's review once I complete each book.

get comfortable and open your Bible

Any additional comments?

I've listened to a few of Dr Creasy's Bible studies now. They're all good. This one comforted me a great when I finally heard heard that he prays before and after each of his lessons. I don't know why most all of his lessons leave out his prayers. Anyway, knowing that he prays before teaching God's Word help me quite a bit knowing that the Holy Spirit is guiding these studies.

These studies provide great insight into each book. I can't recommend them enough. I'm all in of Dr Creasy's through the Bible study. I invite you to join as well. My only regret is that I mostly listen to these during my long commute and I wish I had my Bible to take notes.

Dr. Bill hit it out of the park with this one

Would you consider the audio edition of Matthew to be better than the print version?

Dr. Bill s an expert the history, the archaeology ,and what it was like to live and different times. There is enough gravitas there for senior Christians and newbies. Hetakes teaching the word of God seriously and approaches it with humor!

Dr. Bill states what the Lord says,, and then might go off into various interpretations but iin the end he is word-based always word based!

He makes the Bible fun!

Dr. Bill has opened up the Bible to me and thousands of others! He is a gem if I did not get to meet him on earth than I will certainly meet him in heaven in which I will give him a big hug!

That not only goes for Daniel but for other books of the Bible! I originally started listening to his series in preparation of precepts upon precepts studying revelation! and it made it a whole lot easier on me! I am ones and those who actually understands revelation!

I wish there were more people out there like Dr. Bill and there would be more Christians without a doubt!

Absolutely wonderful! Thank you!

I have been an Audible customer for about the same time I've been a Christian believer--roughly 14 years. And I can't even understand how I haven't found these before. Dr. Creasy is wonderful! How blessed those students were to sit in on the class and travel on the trips and retreats with him. This teaching is so engaging, and he brings every line of the Bible to life. I appreciate the humor, too, as it keeps the teaching from being so serious. I can't stop listening, and I'm grateful for this teaching to help me understand His Word. I've read Matthew dozens and dozens of times, and I learned several new things that I missed before. I'm so glad these are available. I'm eventually going to download all of them, but so far Matthew has been my favorite.

Life, peace, and history.

What did you like best about this story?

Have you listened to any of Dr. Bill Creasy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dr. Creasy is very consistent in all of his performances.

Thoroughly captivating

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Understanding Jesus as a Savior Who came to divide as opposed to make peace on earth (see Luke 12:51) isn't a hard concept to comprehend with this book's interpretation. With painstaking detail and cross-referencing of the Holy Scriptures and outside resources (more on that in a bit), Dr. Creasy illustrates the progression of the Lord's frustration with religious leaders of His day and the need to bring forth salvation as prophesied. A major problem with the audio book, however, is that there are no accompanying maps to follow along with Creasy's lectures. There should be.

A Great Lecture Series!

This is another great lecture series from Dr. Bill Creasy. He is always incredibly insightful and engaging. He often supplements the material with personal stories which are relevant and interesting. He has taken several trips to Israel and the Middle East where he visits the locations depicted in the Bible and he shares those first hand accounts which enables him to take you back to that point in time that the scripture is talking about.
