Publisher's summary

J.P. Moreland—Christian philosopher, theologian, and apologist—issues a call to recapture the drama and power of kingdom living—to cultivate a revolution of Evangelical life, spirituality, thought, and Spirit-led power.

Drawing insights from the early church, he unpacks three essential ingredients of this revolution:

  • Recovery of the Christian mind.
  • Renovation of Christian spirituality.
  • Restoration of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Western society is in crisis: the result of our culture's embrace of naturalism and postmodernism, and a biblical worldview has been pushed to the margins. Christians have been strongly influenced by these trends, with the result that their personal lives often reflect the surrounding culture more than the way of Christ, and the church's transforming influence on society has waned as a result.

Kingdom Triangle is divided into two major sections:

  1. The first examines and provides a critique of secular worldviews and shows how they have ushered in the current societal crisis.
  2. The second lays out a strategy for the Christian community to regain the potency of kingdom life and influence in the world.

Moreland believes that evangelical Christianity can mature and lead the surrounding society out of the meaningless morass it finds itself in with humility and vision. With clear insight, he puts the thoughtful Christian in a position to understand our current cultural struggle and to return to a responsible presentation of "the way of Christ" as not just a way of right living, but also a way of knowledge and meaningful life.

Excellent book but deep for audio format

I enjoyed this book very much, as it has given me a lot of food for thought. However, the subject matter is a little deep and probably better suited for reading rather than listening. Still, as a busy professional, this was a great way to plow through a good book about an important topic in a reasonable time.

This book offers excellent discussion about different views within the church and trends inside and outside of it. It frames important questions for Christians to contemplate and attempts to point readers towards answers.

Good Balance Between Ideas & Actionable Items

Would you listen to Kingdom Triangle again? Why?

Yes, to better understand his arguments as my background isn't philosophy.

What didn’t you like about James Adams’s performance?

He has such a stuffy voice which kind of re-enforces the myth that this is for 'intellectuals' only.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nothing extreme, but the stories he shared touched my heart.

Any additional comments?

It would be great to have access to the study questions in print form (without having to buy the Kindle version). I couldn't find them on the websites, and I feel like I'll need to transcribe them to be able to answer them.

Reading with Substance

An excellent presentation of the state of the Western World's view of reality and the implications for the past, present, and future direction of both Christian and non-Christian western societies. Moreland considers the implications of these views both from a macro as well as micro perspective bringing the application of how one's world view has direct implications for our experience of life. He presents practical examples, resources and ways to apply real world living within the context of a world view consistent with reality. Like the content, the literary presentation of the material is quite substantial when compared to the typical western reading material of most recent decades. This can be difficult to follow at times but well worth the effort in pushing
through some of the more challenging sections. One of the most useful aspects of Moreland's book is his reference to dozens of contemporary authors and their respective works, from all perspectives, that provide year's of additional reading material to help stretch one's mind and understanding of present day Western perspectives. I highly recommend this for those with a desire to expand and develop their mind as an expression of their love and commitment for God.

A beautiful balance of ideas

So often the intellectual side of our faith is set against the spiritual side of our faith. Moreland does a fantastic job of showing how that a mature Christian can embrace both of these

True call to follow Christ

JP offers a compelling case to truly follow Christ with all of you. I pray that the conviction I experienced leads me to walk more closely with Christ. As a side note it was quite the juxtaposition to picture JP speaking with James Adams' voice.
