Publisher's Summary

Hyper-spiritual approaches to finding God's will don't work. It's time to try something new: Give up.

Pastor and author Kevin DeYoung counsels Christians to settle down, make choices, and do the hard work of seeing those choices through. Too often, he writes, God's people tinker around with churches, jobs, and relationships, worrying that they haven't found God's perfect will for their lives. Or, even worse, they do absolutely nothing, stuck in a frustrated state of paralyzed indecision, waiting...waiting...waiting for clear, direct, unmistakable direction.

But God doesn't need to tell us what to do at each fork in the road. He's already revealed his plan for our lives: to love him with our whole hearts, to obey His Word, and after that, to do what we like.

No need for hocus-pocus. No reason to be directionally challenged. Just do something.

    "Refreshing and Liberating"

(This review covers both the Kindle version and the professional narration.)

    I loved this book!
I have long been prone to being paralyzed by the fear of making mistakes, and would often rather live with the consequences of other people's decisions than make decisions of my own.
The Lord has been working on this problem in my life for a while, chipping away at the walls of my prison. But reading this book was like putting down my little chipping tool and trying dynamite instead. Fresh air at last!
Lots of good biblical wisdom here, and lots of dismantling of pseudo-religious thinking which shackles so many people. If you or someone you know is struggling with decisions and the will of God, get this book!
The professional narration was good. No complaints. I would readily listen to him again.

    "Good resource"

DeYoung has some interesting ideas on how to determine the will of God. Having been around people who simply prayed about it and then did what they wanted and got it wrong many times, I have difficulty accepting his care free approach. But I would definitely recommend this book as part of search for understanding Gods will because, in concert with other resources, it does an excellent job of explaining:
    1. Even “Gods perfect will” is not trouble and difficulty free, so analyzing God’s will based off of the lack of difficulty is not a balanced approach
    2. In praying for Gods will we pray far too often for discernment on outside factors rather than internal factors (personal desires, fears, selfish ambition) that can cloud and confuse our understanding of Gods will.
    3. We look for a sign far too often when we should simply be making a wise choice.
This isn’t the ultimate book on how to make a Godly decision, it definitely has some holes, but it is still a great resource, especially for that young man or woman who can’t seem to grow up or someone who over analyzes everything.
