Since day one we've been urged to look out for number one. And since day one we've believed the lie, "It's all about me".
Max Lucado sets our sights elsewhere: points us upward, and shows us how much our lives and relationships would change if we all took our place and played our parts. He'll show you how to bump your life off self-center and how to experience the life of purpose you were meant to have.
Your discovery starts now.

I AM LEGALLY BLIND AND ENJOY LISTENING TO STORIES OF FAITH, HISTORICAL CHRISTIAN NOVELS, AND BOOKS WITHOUT SWEARING ESP. USING GODS NAME
MAX LUCADO IS A NAME YOU CAN ALWAYS ATRUST AND THIS BOOK IS NO EXCEPTION. HE MAKES YOU REALIZE THAT "I'M NOT AN IMPORTANT AS I THIN I AM" , EXCEPT IN GOD'S SIGHT. READING THIS BOOK BROUGHT ME A SENSE OF SEVURITY AND PEACE THAT I NEEDED BADLY.

This book help me understand my purpose in life. Helped me understand why things happened in my life the way they did. I can say with a huge smile. "To Him be the Glory" I pray that every day of my life will find a way to glorify Him. He is worthy. I had to purchase the book just so I can write and remember all in this book. I listened to this book twice I have a strange feeling I'll be listing to it again and again.
Max Lucado is a gifted writer. I think someone else could have presented the material better, but he's not the worst author/narrator I've ever heard.
The best part about this book is the focus that it places on God and maintaining a godly outlook that considers God and His reputation first and foremost in any situation. He does this without minimizing the believer's suffering, which is a difficult thing to do.
I took away a star from the overall category because I sensed a little bit of the "health and wealth" theology, which really had no place in an otherwise excellent book. I understood his point that godly habits sometimes render a prosperous result and that God should be given credit for anything good that comes whether we worked hard for it or not, but he got dangerously close to suggesting that if we follow God, we are going to be wealthy.
In total, it was a wonderful book that will help the reader/listener gain perspective no matter how chaotic the situation seems to be. It's not an easy concept, but it's an important one that really helps to fight the depression that comes with thinking that it is all about us.
Max Lucado has a wonderful way of bringing esoteric, dogmatic and theocratical ideas down to earth for the layman through everyday examples, which help us understand the message of why we are here, what is our mission and who God is. This book helps us to refocus our life and direction by pointing out that it truly is "Not About Me".
I enjoyed the book and, as usual, Max Lucado made some great points and had a couple great illustrations but this one fell short of what I was hoping for. The thrust of the book is that we can have peace and rejoice in the fact that it's not about me. Though a great point and a perspective I had not considered before, I was hoping for more help with my pride and some down to earth help on how to keep pushing myself toward a more humble perspective.
