History and Stereotypes

What the two most negative reviewers of this book claim to be truth, are only a function of the historical paradigm in which we currently live. True, we may not see Christians killing each other now, but that was not always true. And Christians may be more tolerant now, but that is certainly not historically true. Islam does have a history of peace, coexistence, and tolerance. This may not be what we see today, but remember only the negative and prejudicial make news.
It was only in 1920 that women in the US were allowed to vote, and child labor laws were still abused. We are very quick to forget our own shortcomings and view ourselves as a morally superior and enlightened group. This book is an attempt to show that Islam is not synonymous with terrorism and rights abuse, the same way that Christianity does not mean Crusades and The Inquisition. This book shows that Islam can play a vital and integral role in bringing world peace. But if some of these reviewers are representative of US or world opinion, maybe it is us that won?t let them become more than the stereotype we have.
The book is textually sound and gives good exaples from Islamic writings and history. I do wish it would go into greater detail, but that is my own curiosity. I don't nescessarily agree with all that he says but my opinion is to give the book a chance and maybe it will change what you think Islam is really about.

If true why are most terrriosts Muslim?

If this book were true there would be no 9/11. Most terrorists in the world today are Muslim. World peace? The countrys at the top of the U.N.'s list of mistreatment of women and children are Muslim. When they can't attack none Muslims they start killing each other. Look at the different Sects who kill members of other Sects. How many Methodists in the name of God are out killing Baptists in the world? None!! Nothing but a book of lies and attempts to mislead readers. Poor research!

A book explaining the true original meaning of Islam. Very relavent to whats happening in todays world.

I see Muslim groups periodically set up booths promoting Islam. I am always tempted to stop off and ask them what would happen in most of their countries if I, a Christian, were to set up a similar table promoting Christianity at a University. I would likely be expelled from the country, jailed or even executed. A peaceful religion? I'll believe it when they afford people of different faiths the same priviliges they are afforded here in the US instead of violently persecuting them in many cases.

Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, a Sufi mystic, can best be remembered for his efforts to bring unity through understanding to the faithful of all religions.
In 1971 Bawa Muhaiyaddeen accepted an invitation to visit the United States. Here, once again, people from all religious, social and ethnic backgrounds would join to hear him speak. Across the United States, Canada and England, he won recognition from religious scholars, journalists, educators and world leaders. The United Nation's Assistant Secretary General, Robert Muller, asked for Bawa Muhaiyaddeen's guidance on behalf of all mankind. Time Magazine turned to him for clarification during the hostage crisis in 1980. Thousands more were touched by his wise words when interviewed in Psychology Today, the Harvard Divinity Bulletin, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Pittsburgh Press.

Great book and introductory into the true spirit of Revelation

Great book and introductory into the true spirit of Revelation in general. It definitely brings faith beyond the simplistic and limited history book format that many people who misunderstand faith often do.

While Shaykh Bawahs starts with a historical focus it's not limited to the historical. Rather, simply does so to clear up some recent misunderstandings. It then goes deep into the spirit of faith and Islam. His views through Islam is deeply respectful of all faith traditions (religions). The narrator also did a very good job giving life to the book as he read it. True faith and Truth in general, transcends the boundaries that human minds place on it. Ultimately, lovingly and willingly giving yourself to God (a definition of Islam) is a living dialogue between creation and Creator.

Shaykh Bawah in this book addresses the entire brotherhood of humanity through its various communities at times references different shades of meaning within the same word. Only those who seek to learn with an open heart understand statements like them.

Often those who complain are those who expected to confirm what they already believed. Since they heard something different they get upset because it didn't fit in the mental boxes and definitions they had before reading. That's the opposite of an open mind.

May all of us within humanity open our hearts to all of brothers and sisters and truly love one another.
