"The lavish production pulls out all the stops....If a modern multimedia production experience is what you're after, enjoy the fine voices and often dynamic dramatized readings." (AudioFile)
This phenomenal spoken word version of the Bible brings new meaning to the Good Word of the Lord, even for people that have read it before. The professional actors, the music, the background noises - it all adds up to a real "experience." This is not to be missed. They even manage to make the genealogies sound interesting with drums, use of voice, etc.
I love the drama of this recording, but I was very disappointed that it is not divided into parts by the books. If I had known this I would have though twice about using credits for this and would have bought each book separately or at least only the books I was interested.
I used to think I would recommend it, but not anymore because of it dropping 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
I liked the performances.
I pretty much liked them all.
I listened to it in my car.
Put 2 Timothy 3:16-17 back in. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
1. Could not see anywhere on Audible's website what version of the Bible this was done in. Very disappointed in the translation.
2. Would be helpful if the audio bible was broke down in books (not parts), etc. so it would be easier to select a certain book you wanted to listen too.
3. Also this particular audio book shows Angela Bassett as the main narrator. However, the main narration was done by a male - not a female.
4. I found the voice for Moses dull and very irritating.
5. Some the background music grated on my nerves (especially the high-pitched strings)
6. I find it extremely interesting that the group who put this audiobook together used various voices (including female!) for David in the book of Psalms.
If it wasn't for all the aforementioned I might would have given this four stars for overall.
Awesome Audio! Open in iTunes for chapter settings. Make sure to download all 9 parts. Thank you for making this available.
I have no clue what verse, chapters or books I'm in. this is on going reading with no book marks. If you want to read Genesis, Exodus or Levitcus, there's no way to found them. No titles to any books on this audio. I don't have I tunes so I can't change the parts. Nineteen parts with no titles. BIG miss!
Awesome audio book but download file has issues
Not sure but must be an a limitation with the Classic iPod and the file format as I don't see this issue on the PC. When downloading the file as one part it keeps going back to 11:20:43. Anytime prior to that is fine but stuck on Numbers. Will have to deal with 19 parts instead.
Other than that the reading is awesome and unlike the New Testament which oddly breaks into songs at inappropriate times this book works through the narrative appropriately.
I had the NT Bible Experience audio and did not realize they completed the OT. I was happy to find this and immediately purchased it. I have not listened to the entire OT, but I've thoroughly loved all that I have heard and I know I will be listening to this for years to come.
This is an excellent purchase if you love the Word and it will make some of the OT books that you might not otherwise read, very enjoyable to listen to.
HIGHLY HIGLY Recommend, this is not for Entertainment - The Word of God will change your life if you are willing and obedient. I LOVE IT.
I love the difference in accents, being Australian I found it great listing to. I also enjoyed the stories that had extra sounds and even the sound of a crowd - help bring it to life. 10/10
It is great to hear the Bible read by several voices (although I can't help but think about Pulp Fiction every time Samuel Jackson speaks). By having several voices read it, I don't attach a particular voice to God, I just hear the words. The overall production is good, though a bit heavy on the synthesized muzak.
The main problem is the extremely long title (for example "Inspired By...The Bible Experience: Old Testament (Unabridged) Part 12"): The NT is broken down into 3 parts and the OT into 19 with "part n" at the very end and it is not possible to shorten or otherwise change titles in Audible Player. That makes it difficult to find the part you want on your mp3 player- first you need to know which part has which books of the Bible and then you need to count or wait for the entire title to scroll across the little screen before you know which part it is.
The Inspired By Bible Experience is probably the most significant and important work ever committed to audio. This is no mere audio bible but an epic 65 hour drama: a product worthy of Hollywood. I cannot praise this work too highly. The cast are all African-Americans including the cream of the acting fraternity. I don't normally like American audio due to the all too common Texan drawl however these voices are superb. I'm waiting for Audible to release the New Testament which is already available in the shops at an exhorbitant price. The greatest audio production ever. Buy a TNIV XL 'hardcopy' and read along.
This is billed as The Old Testament, however it only contains Genesis - 2 Chronicles
"A Brilliant Opener"
An amazing start to an amazing series, this is truly absorbing listening whether you are a believer or not. This is truly the greatest story ever told, with a brilliant list of superb readers
I love this - it's so well produced.
"Good But Could Be Fantastic"
Well the product needs no introduction. It's the word of God after all.
I have been listening to this consitently and love the change in character voices rather than one monotonous voice all the way through. There is however a lot of background noises for effect like running water or crowds murmuring as the characters speak. This was really distracting at first as I couldn't concentrate on the actual word but after half an hour or so I got used to it and could filter it out.
My biggest gripe, and it really is a shame cause there has been a lot of work been put into this, is the chapters and books are not separated on the audio. In other words if you wanted to skip tracks to Chapter 12 in Genesis from Chapter 1, you can't simply select the next track to 2, 3, 4, 5..... and so on. Instead it's a laborious task of searching using fast forward which is not practical.
However, if your intention is to simply listen to the audio systematically and not use it for study purposes then i can highly recommend it. If like me you are studying and want to hear specific books or chapters then it's really not properly set up for this. There is a way around it involving taking the audio and splitting it up manually but this takes me around 90mins per book and with 66 books that's a lot of time investment.
Hope this helps anyone considering the purchase.
"Good but also disappointed"
I loved the narration but wish the whole book was divided into books of the bible instead of chapters, i.e chapter 1, chapter 2 etc. This makes it difficult to find the book of the bible you want to hear!
