This is maybe the best book I've ever listened that exhorts and calls to action. This has encouraged me more than words can say because my life seems to be a struggle & I know that this is how God is working in me.
This rings a bell - and I would encourage every person to listen to this book.
I will probably listen to this book no less than once a year! John Piper is very clear and very in depth in his teaching. Mr Piper breaks down each verse in such a way as to make it clear to the newest Christian, yet make it a learning experience for the mature Christian!
Clear solid theology, with Biblically sound exegesis.
You can tell by Mr Piper's voice, that he clearly believes all that he says (as do I), and that he wants nothing less than God's Gospel to come from his mouth.
While I would love to say yes, because of the quality of the teaching included, I would say that this book would be best listened to in conjunction with your own Bible study in the book of Hebrews.
This study of Hebrews is so rich and deep that your soul will overflow from listening and applying these truths. I learned a great deal, I was convicted a great deal and drawn closer to the Lord in many ways over the 2 weeks of listening.
This is such an edifying sermon series. I just finished but immediately started at the beginning again because I know there will be more for me to learn the second time around.
I loved his passion for God and His holy Word as he preaches and calls Christians to not only hear the truths of God's Word but to let it change us inwardly and outwardly.
I could listen for hours--well, I did because I couldn't get enough. However, I found it helpful to take breaks at various points to let the impact of the sermon sink in.
Take notes! John Piper is a masterful expositor of God's Word and this is NOT your typical superficial, fluffy preaching. Looking forward to his series on Romans!!
Powerful messages on the Supremacy of Christ in all things.. Much to think about and put into practice. I listened on my commute and it changed the day and the drive.
I am thankful that this is available in this format!! Admittedly I am currently terrified of being like Esau, but I am thankful for the salt of the encouragement and it's timing in my life. Since
having the option to listen to whatever I want to while I work, and knowing that it's 25-30 hrs a week I can listen and learn and even redeem; this was perfect!
I expect that John Piper's delivery is not appealing to everyone, but I want to hear what he says with his own voice, just as I prefer to hear a singer/songwriter deliver their song rather than someone else covering it. His passion for Jesus, for the scripture, for precise meaning is all there in the way he brings the sermon. This is probably the best sermon series I have ever heard and I know I will return to it many times. Some of his insights I have heard preached nowhere else. Piper may not always be right, but he is brilliantly uncompromising in saying what he believes--and is convincing in the bargain.
John Piper is thorough, passionate and well prepared. Exercising the patience, that an in depth study of the book of Hebrews requires, will make this a profitable audible experience for the listener.
Only one suggestion. The Chapter Index would be much more useful if the applicable scripture passage of each chapter were referenced. It would be especially useful for looking back to previous commentary.
Excellent study of Hebrews. Well worth the long listen. I appreciate John's insight and words of truth.
