We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and pre-meal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means.
But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, "Do you believe in grace?" who could say no?
Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God's grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Let's make certain grace gets you.

Written as only Max Lacado can, GRACE is a powerful, concise overview of the Biblical doctrine of God's grace in our lives. Lacado has the gift of making the complex understandable and reachable. The book is great for anyone, but perfect for those struggling with either their view of a "mean God" or of how they feel God views them.

If you are a Christian, and have never heard of this pastor-author from Texas, you're in for a treat! Why not start with this small book? I've read many of Max's books since I became a Christian over 30 years ago. Max Lucado has a God-given gift for communicating the Truths of the Word in a way that even a child understands. He has a way of taking the stories in Scripture and creating his own parallel story in a contemporary manner. In this book, for example, one of the stories is that of the old testament book of Ruth. He explains the background of the story and the plight of Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi. Then he explains how we are like Ruth, and how Jesus saves us as Boaz, Ruth's kinsman/redeemer, saved her.
I believe that his writing crosses denominational lines. Enjoy!
You are what you feed your mind...so, feed it the good stuff!!!
The wisdom Max gives in this book is truly amazing, he breaks the Grace of God down into manageable pieces that are easy to comprehend and understand. You will definitely enjoy this book!!!
The illustrations are poignant and the word smithing Lucado-sequel. The message is the same one that resounds through all of his volumes. Predictable, yes! Quality? Yes that too.
This book is a great read for a quick pick-me-up and reassurance of God's love for you. Max Lucado is a very encouraging author, and he writes with such love and perception.
I would recommend this book to anyone feeling discouraged or like God has forgotten about you.
A little less retelling of Bible stories...I don't buy a book to hear it retell another (even if it is the Bible)
I don't understand the authors whole section on driking beer. I understand that he felt hiding it was wrong, but personally if you aren't getting drunk, what exactly is the sin there? Just don't hide driking a beer, there is nothing wrong with it (Paul and Jesus drank wine afterall!...I don't believe beer was availabe in that era, or perhaps they'd be having a beer too!). Anyhow, either way, the section on this was long and distracting and was't the best story to make a point.
I love Jesus, family, animals, nature ~ I'm in school for Web Technologies and Information Systems Technology. I love web design and writing.
Inspirational, encouraging, a reminder of God's goodness - His grace. The author provides the listener with ample scriptures and reminds us about how we need to appreciate the gift of God's grace, something I hate to admit that I have, at times, taken for granted. I really appreciate this book and the reminder that, "My grace is sufficient for you. for my power is made perfect in weakness" ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9. I claim this verse and hope that others will enjoy this short listen as much as I have.
I have not read the print version so I would not know.
I have read several books on grace and this is the best I have ever read. It makes it so easy to understand and has so many good examples that makes it so amazing.
Made me happy and excited that I feel I fully understand what grace is all about.
I hope you get a chance to listen to this. You will not be sorry you did.
"Another great book by Max"
So often we hear and learn about grace. Max however had been able to capture it in easy to understand language, with references to scripture to dazzle you. Not with his skill, but with the words and assurances that he may pass on from Him. Easy book to listen to, wonderful content to receive, and grateful treasure to live by. GRACE.
