In his 50 years as a Franciscan, which include many summers in Assisi leading pilgrims in the steps of Francis and Clare, Murray Bodo has been able to drink in the spirit of Francis. With the imagination and vision of a poet, he invites all who will listen to heed their dreams and accept the challenge of journeying with Francis.

“St. Francis as presented by Father Bodo is not only visionary, but practical, not only gentle, but determined, not only pure, but whole.” (The Church World)
“Rarely has the beautiful and difficult mixed-life spirituality of St. Francis been so simply, lyrically and faithfully presented.” (Raphael Brown, Franciscan scholar)
“Murray Bodo is a poet and he has used his poet’s vision to present a Francis of Assisi who is alive and appealing to the contemporary reader. But he’s done much more than that. There is wisdom here, and there are insights into many situations that fret us all today. It’s a book to use for meditation and one that every follower of the gospel life will want to have on hand for the journey.” (Naomi Burton, literary agent and close friend of Thomas Merton)
Although this is very well performed, I would prefer reading this because of the way the text is organized. It is organized in chapters that read like vignettes, which lend themselves better to small readings.
I love how Fr. Bodo writes. He uses beautiful language and creative structure.
Fr. Bodo's voice, although at times he sounds like Lorenzo Music of Garfield fame, is articulate, and at times sounds as happy and carefree as St. Francis himself would sound.
It is more of a creative spin on St. Francis' life. This is not a linear, sequential treatment of the life of St. Francis. But as a work of creative art, this book is a gem.
The most powerful book about St Francis for both Christians and non Christians. Thanks.
I love listening to this over and over and over. As a Franciscan, I never tire of these stories, beautifully told and read by Murray Bodo. It's my most listened to audiobook! I'm wishing Bodo would record the actual writings of St Francis and St Clare - he is a very inspiring reader.
